Finale
Slipknot Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know it's a shame but I gotta stay because I like it here
I know it's the same, it happens every day but I like it here
I know it's a shame but I gotta stay because I like it here
I know it's the same, it happens every day but I like it here
I like it here

The sentiment, the sad things, the punishment, the bad things
The cellular, the solenoid, the outer reach, the inner void
I keep repeating older answers, the questions are all brand new
Does the room seem smaller these days? Does the road seem long to you?
The accidents, the bitter pills, the populace, the stronger wills
The innocence, the common sense, the rare occasions exist

I know it's a shame but I gotta stay because I like it here
I know it's the same, it happens every day but I like it here

I know it's a shame but I gotta stay because I like it here
I know it's the same, it happens every day but I like it here

The harder work, the darker thoughts, the ultimatums, the tangled knots
The long depressions, the shorter fuse, denominator is you

Everybody has a cross to bear
I'll nail you up on mine
Couldn't tell you, don't know where to begin
Won't crumble not this time

I know it's a shame but I gotta stay because I like it here
I know it's the same, it happens every day but I like it here
I know it's a shame but I gotta stay because I like it here

I know it's the same, it happens every day but I like it here
I like it here

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Slipknot's song "Finale" convey a contradictory sentiment of staying in a situation despite its negative aspects because the individual likes it there. The repetition of "I know it's a shame but I gotta stay because I like it here" suggests a conflicted mindset, acknowledging the shame but also emphasizing the personal preference and attachment. This can be interpreted as a representation of the complexity of human emotions and the capacity for individuals to find comfort even in circumstances that may not be ideal or healthy.

The following lines further explore the paradoxical nature of the situation. The references to "the sentiment, the sad things, the punishment, the bad things" and "the accidents, the bitter pills, the populace, the stronger wills" highlight the presence of negative elements in the surroundings. However, there is also an acknowledgement of "the innocence, the common sense, the rare occasions" that counterbalance these negative experiences. The repetition of the line "Does the room seem smaller these days? Does the road seem long to you?" suggests a sense of confinement and struggle within this environment.

The lyrics continue with an introspective tone, acknowledging personal responsibility. The references to "the harder work, the darker thoughts, the ultimatums, the tangled knots" imply a weight on the individual's mind. The line "denominator is you" suggests that the individual is a common factor in these challenging aspects. The mention of "everybody has a cross to bear, I'll nail you up on mine" could be interpreted as a metaphorical reference to taking responsibility for one's own struggles.

In conclusion, "Finale" by Slipknot explores the conflicting emotions and attachments that can keep individuals trapped in negative situations. It reflects on the complexity of human preferences and the capacity to find comfort even in environments that may not be ideal.

I don't understand the folks wanting this to sound like all the other albums. We already have those. Slipknot making new music that sounds "different" just draws in more types of fans and I personally love all of it since day one. No matter what your mood they have a song for that!

As a young fan who loves to headbang the shit out of Self-titled and Iowa, this album is freaking awesome, it's just about having an open mind and appreciate shades of Slipknot that we haven't seen before.
