Slipknot is well known for its attention-grabbing image, aggressive style of music, and energetic and chaotic live shows. The band rapidly rose to fame following the release of their eponymous debut album in 1999. The 2001 follow-up album, Iowa, although darker in tone, made the band more popular. After a brief hiatus, Slipknot returned in 2004 with Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, before going on another hiatus and returning in 2008 with its fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. After another long hiatus, Slipknot released its fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, in 2014. Their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind, was released on August 9, 2019. Their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, was released on September 30, 2022. The band has released two live albums titled 9.0: Live and Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico, a compilation album titled Antennas to Hell, and five live DVDs. The band has sold 30 million records worldwide.

Yeah
Chaos, it's just the beginning
Every promise I made I'm rescinding
Center mass in the middle of the monster
I'm getting tired of drowning the constant
Cry for help it's debatable
Come on, come see dysfunction
I guess we're gonna leave it open for discussion
Who am I?
And where am I going?
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction
Maybe I'm looking for any direction
This is not my war
This is not my fight
This is something more
This is not my life
(This is not my) revolution
(This is not my) convolution
(This is not my) expectation
(This is not my) desperation
Yeah, holed up, scarred and tamed for the hell of it
Look at me, I am the glorified malcontent
Save me? Save this
All I gotta do is give up, and all is forgiven
I'm sick of being the butt of a cosmic joke
And I don't get the punchline
A million people lined up for miles
To see the great big mouth shut up and apologize
This is not my war
This is not my fight
This is something more
This is not my life
(This is not my) revolution
(This is not my) convolution
(This is not my) only reason to question why
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today I said goodbye
Yeah
I'm the pariah (break me)
I am the liar (save me)
I can take anything (make me)
Accuse me of everything (kill me)
Cut off the system (slay me)
Deny my existence (waste me)
I won't be afraid (try me)
I won't be unmade (take me)
Come on, break it off
Come on, buy the lie
Come on, say it, say it
Come on, say goodbye
Goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
Oh I didn't need to leave to stay right here
Today, I said goodbye, goodbye
One (one), two (two), three (three), nil
Yes
The lyrics of Slipknot's song "Three Nil" at face value, seem like chaos and a whole lot of frustration. The first verse is an expression of dissatisfaction with the world, with the singer reneging on every promise they had previously made to try and make things better, confessing instead to feeling like they are drowning in a sea of perpetual pain. The chorus, however, is one of clarity: The singer distances himself from the external problems and insists that none of this is his fight, his war or his life. The frustration expressed in the song reaches its climax in the second verse, with the singer lashing out at an ungracious world that enjoys making him the butt of jokes.
Overall, the theme of the song seems to be a mix of anger and self-doubt, with the lyrics hinting at a feeling of powerlessness, while simultaneously expressing a strongly opinionated point of view. The line, "Maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction, maybe I'm looking for any direction" is a perfect illustration of this duality.
