After a brief hiatus, Slipknot returned in 2004 with Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, before going on another hiatus and returning in 2008 with its fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. After another long hiatus, Slipknot released its fifth studio album, .5: The Gray Chapter, in 2014. Their sixth studio album, We Are Not Your Kind, was released on August 9, 2019. Their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, was released on September 30, 2022. The band has released two live albums titled 9.0: Live and Day of the Gusano: Live in Mexico, a compilation album titled Antennas to Hell, and five live DVDs. Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wonder out where you can't see
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed
I've felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wonder out where you can't see
Goodbye!
I wipe it off on tile, the light is brighter this time
Everything is 3D blasphemy
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up
This is not the way I pictured me
I can't control my shakes
How the hell did I get here?
Something about this, so very wrong
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this
Is it a dream or a memory?
I've felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wonder over where you can't see
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed
Get outta my head 'cause I don't need this
Why I didn't I see this?
I'm a victim, Manchurian candidate
I have sinned by just
Makin' my mind up and takin' your breath away
I've felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wander over where you can't see
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed
I've felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wonder out where you can't see
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed
Goodbye!
You haven't learned a thing
I haven't changed a thing
My flesh was in my bones
The pain was always free
You haven't learned a thing
I haven't changed a thing
My flesh was in my bones
The pain was always free
I've felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wonder out where you can't see
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed
I've felt the hate rise up in me
Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wonder out where you can't see
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed
And it waits for you!
The lyrics of "Wait and Bleed" by Slipknot feature the emotions of hate, anger, and confusion. The first verse is repeated throughout the song, "I've felt the hate rise up in me/Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves/I wonder out where you can't see/Inside my shell, I wait and bleed." It is a representation of the buildup of negative emotions that someone is experiencing. The clearing of the stone of leaves is a metaphor for the person getting rid of all their negative feelings.
In the second verse, the lyrics talk about how everything around them is a dark and nightmarish 3D blasphemy. This represents the confusion and overwhelmed feeling that they might be experiencing. The line "Get outta my head 'cause I don't need this/Why I didn't I see this?" represents the person feeling trapped in their own mind without any way to escape.
The chorus of the song is where the title comes into play, "Inside my shell, I wait and bleed." It is a representation of how someone can be tormented by their own mind and feelings, causing them to feel trapped and helpless. The ending of the song, "And it waits for you!" is a reminder that these negative emotions are always waiting and can come back at any time.
