Epilogue
Sloppy Jane Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't think that I believe in
Things that I can't buy anymore, anymore

'Cause without money, I can't tell
If I found the wishing well
Or just another hole in the ground
Mmm hmm hmm mmm hmm hmm
The next time you see me
Won't you tell me to leave you alone?
Then maybe I can finally go home
I went to the party I started
Feeling like a creep, so I
Put on my wedding dress, I i went to sleep

And when I slept, I dreamt I saw you
Covering your ears, that's how I
Found out that I'd been screaming
I woke up feeling weird

The next timе you see me
Won't you tell me to lеave you alone?
Then maybe I can finally go

You showed up at my funeral
Wearing boots and underwear
Didn't say anything unusual
Just asked what I was doing there

Well, I am hiding from the man
I hit with my car

Yeah, I am hiding from the man
I hit with my car

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sloppy Jane's song Epilogue seem to delve into feelings of confusion and disillusionment with the world around us. The singer asserts that they no longer believe in things that they cannot buy, indicating a sense of cynicism towards the power of non-monetary experiences and concepts such as love, hope, and faith. This is further highlighted in the lines "Cause without money, I can't tell / If I found the wishing well / Or just another hole in the ground," wherein the singer suggests that even things that are supposed to be symbolic of hope and positivity may ultimately be meaningless in the face of the all-consuming power of money.

The latter half of the song takes on a dreamlike quality, with the singer describing having gone to a party and feeling like a creep before putting on their wedding dress and falling asleep. This is followed by a dream sequence in which the singer sees the subject of their affection, covering their ears and indicating a rejection or reluctance to listen. The dream ends with the singer waking up feeling "weird." The song concludes with the subject of the dream ("you") showing up at the singer's funeral, wearing an odd outfit and asking what they are doing there. The singer responds by stating that they are hiding from the man they hit with their car, which adds another layer of surrealism and disorientation to the already dark and ambiguous lyrics.

Overall, Epilogue is a haunting and complex song that explores themes related to detachment, disillusionment, and the human tendency to use material wealth as a measure of value and importance.

Thank you for sharing this album visually, to everyone involved in making it happen the band members musicians filmmaker photographer friends, to you hayley for your undying visions sharing your heartbreak and echoes to us all. Honestly been so overwhelmed by this album emotionally since it came out it's quite unlike anything else and isn't trying to be, completely of its own. I feel completely immersed listening and watching this, and so much more. I understand my crying at the end of the constable now too, the feeling just bled through to me as I'm sure for others too. Just feeling very grateful thank you x
