The Pieces
Slow Club Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Close all the doors, turn off tonight
And let those thin ribbons of light
Work their way through all your dreams
Tryna remember what I've seen
Raid upon eyes
Run my fingers through the H lines in the word
I can rely on it many times
The truth is you're not yourself
()
Cause lately you've been stolen
Where's my friend, I miss her
No-one told me you'd be disappearing
Now we're all here, you are all here
Looking for the pieces
The pieces, the pieces
()
So many years, too many ties to come with
Just one home bread knife (?)
You're standing in the wee of light
And you can step out anytime, but
()
Lately you've been stolen
Where's my friend, I miss her
No-one told me you'd be disappearing
Now we're all here, you are all here
Looking for the pieces
The pieces, the pieces
(Bridge)
Lately you've been stolen
Where's my friend, I miss her
No-one told me you'd be disappearing
Now we're all here, you are all here
Looking for the pieces
The pieces, the pieces
()
Lately you've been stolen
Where's my friend, I miss her
No-one told me you'd be disappearing
Now we're all here, you are all here

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Slow Club’s song “The Pieces” capture a sense of loss, confusion, and longing for something or someone that has gone missing. The first verse speaks of shutting out the world and grappling with memories and thoughts: “Close all the doors, turn off tonight / And let those thin ribbons of light / Work their way through all your dreams / Tryna remember what I've seen.” The next lines hint at drug use, as the singer mentions running their fingers through “H lines” (a reference to cocaine) in a word. The second verse is more direct in its description of the missing person, who has been “stolen” and appears to be absent both physically and mentally: “Cause lately you’ve been stolen / Where’s my friend, I miss her / No-one told me you’d be disappearing / Now we’re all here, you are all here / Looking for the pieces.”

The chorus repeats the same idea, emphasizing the search for what’s been lost: “Looking for the pieces / The pieces, the pieces.” There’s a sense of desperation in the repetition, as if the singer and their companions are struggling to find meaning or closure in the face of the absence. The final verse offers a glimmer of hope, suggesting that the missing person can come back if they choose to step out of the shadows: “So many years, too many ties to come with / Just one home bread knife (?) / You're standing in the wee of light / And you can step out anytime.” However, the question of whether or not the person will return remains unanswered, leaving the song with a haunting sense of unresolved longing.

So melodic, so energizing, so unpretentious…Just love it. I just found about this group in a Bulgarian weekly newspaper. Imagine how many people will not ever hear about this gem of a performance team.
