Formed as a blues band and regular opener at the Last Call Saloon (Providence RI), voted “Best New Band” by the Providence Phoenix in 1993, and coasting blissfully downhill since then, SlowDrive weaves an eclectic mix of jazz, folk, country, pop, motown, garage band rock, Slow Drive Originals, and yes, even blues. The band includes Allan Raskin (keys, woodwinds), Peter Mandelson (guitars), Steve Roy (bass, vocals), Rocky Park (drums) and Arna Zucker (vocals).
Raskin, an ER doc, counts some 15 bands and a trip to the WBRU Rock Hunt Finals. Mandelson, a cardiologist, who in fact had embarked on a professional music career before entering medicine, is also a fine pianist. Roy is an independent video producer and was a member of The Maggie Band, a seventies band with a Decca record contract that played extensively in L.A. and London. He adds his distinctive vocals and harmonica to the band's palette. Park, an engineer for Bose Electronics, attended the Berklee School of Music and his long career includes a touring stint with the Platters. Arna, a graphic designer and prepress tech, has been singing professionally since 1984 and has also appeared local theatrical productions.

Can′t remember
Can't remember
What I′m missing
I'm feeling now
I'm missing
Wishing for the sun
Don′t turn away
You′re feeling
Feeling something new
Feels like yesterday
I can't believe
Can′t believe it's true
Looks like rain again
Can′t remember
Can't remember
What I′m missing
I'm feeling now
That I'm wishing
Wishing for the sun
The lyrics of Slowdive's song 'Albatross' seem to be about feeling lost and uncertain, perhaps after a breakup or other difficult event. The repeated line "Looks like rain again" sets a melancholy tone, suggesting a sense of foreboding or impending doom. The lines "Can't remember, Can't remember, What I'm missing" reinforce the idea that the singer is feeling lost or disconnected from their former life. They are unable to identify the source of their distress or what they need to feel complete again.
The chorus introduces a glimmer of hope, with the lyrics "I'm feeling now, I'm missing, Wishing for the sun". It seems that the singer is starting to identify what they need to feel better - metaphorically, they need the warmth and light of the sun to chase away the shadows that are clouding their mind. The song ends with a sense of uncertainty, with the lines "Looks like rain again, Can't remember, Can't remember, What I'm missing". The singer hasn't found the answer they were searching for, but they are still looking for something to help them find their way back.

I like that Slowdive has a song called Albatross that isn’t a Fleetwood Mac cover, a song called Alison that isn’t an Elvis Costello cover and a song called Machine Gun that isn’t a Jimi Hendrix cover.
And then there’s Melon Yellow, which no-one would confuse with any Donovan song. ☺️
