Come On
Small Mercies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Someone's got a hold on me now
Too young, maybe I'm too damn proud to give in
You say
The things we do to those that we love
Hold me back cause I've had enough of living
This way
Hey
Come on, Come on
You hit me harder than the atom bomb
But I Know
I'll be strong

Come on, Come on
You pin me down and tell me that I'm wrong
But I know
I'll be strong

Someone's got me caught in a trance
Until now I thought we'd romance forever
But who knows
Things we do to those that we love
When your pushes turn into shoves won't let it
Control
No

Come on, Come on
You hit me harder than the atom bomb
But I Know
I'll be strong

Come on, Come on
You pin me down and tell me that I'm wrong
But I know
I'll be strong

I can't escape
Why can't I break the hold
I can't take it, it feels unexposed
With such a shame, but now we know

Come on, Come on
You hit me harder than the atom bomb
But I Know
I'll be strong

Come on, Come on
You pin me down and tell me that I'm wrong
But I know
I'll be strong

Come on, Come on
You hit me harder than the
Come on, Come on
You hit me harder than the
Come on, Come on
You hit me harder than the

Come on, Come on
Come on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Small Mercies's "Come On" talk about being controlled by someone else, but refusing to give in and break under their influence. The singer understands that the person they love is manipulating them, but they are too proud to admit that they are being affected. The chorus repeats the phrase "Come on" as if to demand the strength to resist that hold.

The verse "You say the things we do to those that we love" implies that the person they love is hurting them intentionally. The singer feels trapped and helpless, as though they are in a trance that they can't escape. However, they refuse to let their situation defeat them.

The chorus repeats multiple times, emphasizing the struggle to resist the hold someone has on them. The lyrics express the internal turmoil the singer faces, but also the resolve they have to overcome it.

Interestingly, Small Mercies's "Come On" was featured in the season one finale of the hit Netflix show "Outer Banks." The song was also included in the soundtrack of the popular video game "FIFA 21."

At the very beginning (when he's walking among the smaller village model buildings) I was reminded of "Hot Fuzz" (the movie with Simon Pegg -- where that village had a small model village also ) there, a person falls on/gets his chin and mouth pierced by a spire/steeple on one of those model buildings.

I was going to ask if a lot of UKers did these small villages?
[definitely toy houses (like dollhouses were done in the US) ]

Then, in a few seconds [@3:40 ], this person walks in.
She's the female officer in the police station in "Hot Fuzz."
[She had blk hair there -- but I knew I knew her and that expression from somewhere]

That's her from "Hot Fuzz," isn't it??

Too cool lol 😂😲🤔😎☕️

What wonderful actors this series brings us! A delight to see so many older character actors having what looks like a whale of a time playing murder victims, suspects and villains!

How beautiful to have a small village built with a smoking roof and a firefighter on a ladder fighting the fire. All the little running swings, etc. Very nice. Imagine the hours and work it took to build all of it.
Thank you for this video.
Wonderful story line. Great actor and actresses. No wonder we all love the mid summer murders.
God bless

“If you look at this, you’d think it would be some kind of rural paradise. How wrong you would be.” Finally, Barnaby admits that there is something rotten in Midsomer! What a spectacular episode! It pretty much captures all of what I love about Midsomer Murders—the human drama, the offbeat characters, the macabre murders, the comedic gems at the most unexpected moments, the campiness, intelligence, the twists and turns, and mystery of it all. What a comfort and welcome distraction these episodes of Midsomer Murders have been during this time of coronavirus when it feels as if the world is falling apart and we are helplessly holed-up in our homes. I can’t thank you enough for posting!

My husband always asks me if they have run out of victims yet.
