Can I Get A Witness
Smokey Robinson and The Miracles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

There's been times when I climbed behind your eyes only to find
You've climbed inside of mine and we see
Each other looking out on the shrinking sea
That lies between what is and what might be and it gets me thinking
That this could be everything I thought it would be
Like to be in your love I love to be
And it seems I don't ever want to leave your arms
Where I long to be, it's where I love to be
When you're lying next to me life's good good good
There were days when I thought you'd run away but you've stayed
I'm not saying I'm afraid for when you'll go
It's just so nice now I thought that you should know
That I'd forgo all of New England's snow cause baby I've been thinking
That this could be everything I thought it would be
Like to be in your love I love to be
And it seems I don't ever want to leave your arms
Where I long to be, it's where I love to be
When you're lying next to me life's good good good
And since it's good, makes me wonder if we should
Make sense of things and wrap it up with bows and pretty strings
Or pack it away and see what tomorrow brings
And still I sing cause always everything said it gets me thinking
This could be everything I thought it could be
Like to be in your love I love to be
And it seems I don't ever want to leave your arms
Where I long to be, where I love to be
When you're lying next to me life's good good good

It's where I long to be, where I love to be
When you're lying next to me life's good good good

Fun fact: The very first record Michael Jackson ever bought was this single "Mickey's Monkey" by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, cut by that classic Motown group in the 1960s. Within a few years Michael was recording for Motown himself. 😊 RIP Michael ❤

Born in 1947. Still one of my most favorite tunes.

A great piece of footage, thanks for posting. It's one of my favourite Miracles songs, I love the way that they've used a classic Bo Diddley beat. Claudette's voice is all over this one - it's a shame that she didn't join Smokey and the boys in their public appearances during the 60s.'

+Chris Coburn What had happened was that she decided to Retire because she wanted to start a Family.  She suffered Seven Miscarriages including The Birth and Death of Fraternal Twin Girls.   She and Smokey had Two Children Berry born in 1968 and Tamla in 1970.  His Marriage deteriorated when he had a Baby with his Mistress.

Claudette stopped touring with the group in the mid sixties and became a stay at home mom she did continue to record with them
