1. A producer of breakbeat and electronic music signed to Acid Jazz.
2. A rapper. A pimp stuck in a gangster's body.
1. Smoove has been on the scene for a while, as part of ultragroove, ashbrooke allstars and producing for rubberneck and remixing many well-known and lesser-known artists. In 1995 he created his first solo-tracks for the soundtrack to "sprung" (an extreme sports video), of which the track he won't get far was released as a single. In 2000 a cd with his old material was passed to the owner of Acid Jazz, reulting in his first release Dead Men's Shirts in 2004.
About his production Smoove can be quoted: "With the album 'He Won't Get Far' I didn't have the production knowledge that I have now. The tracks were heavily sample based and layered in Cubase in a cut and paste style. I was sampling beats over funk loops, string loops and various vocal snatches. This is my production style, however today because of sampling lawsuits I use minimalist loops from less-obvious sources and then enhance them using session musi cians. This fusion between samples and musicians gives my tracks a mature and organic sound."
Smoove from Newcastle/UK seems to be the shooting star of todayβs electronic freestyle music scene. He crosses all musical boarders in his own tracks and his DJ sets by mixing Funk, Northern Soul, Hip Hop, Breakbeats and Jazz to an organic union.
His presence in the UK and Europe expanded with tours promoting the late 2005 release of his debut album βDead Menβs Shirtsβ on Acid Jazz Records. Performing at the Berlin, Fusion Festival to attendees of 60,000 and a live performance alongside DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist at the Sage Gateshead were two highlights of this busy time.
June 2006 saw the creation of his βMash Upβ label Wack Records. Its first two releases βBig Loveβ & βQuality Soulβ. rocked the German club charts to number 15 and spurned a tour to Germany, Budapest , Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Russia, Lithuania and Poland.
βComing Back/The Revolution will be televisedβ reached position 4 (2005) in the official βBeats & Breaks Chartsβ in the UK and spent five weeks in the German Dance Charts βDCCβ. A floor filler for all soul, funk and freestyle oriented clubs! Freestyle DJs & producers all over Europe gave their credits for the song.
Recent productions have escalated to great heights with his unmistakable βSmooveβ sound. A raise in profile has lead to remixes of artists Malente, Dynamo Productions (Andy Smith & Boca 45) , The Ju Ju Orchestra, Frequento, Bucky Leo Quintet, Torpedo Boyz, K Bonus, Andy Lewis, and The New Master Sounds has opened doors of opportunity with major record labels.
In the summer 2007 Acid Jazz Rec. released his second album βGravyβ Remixes & Rarities which featured the club smash βIm A Manβ and Smooveβs version of the Lord Large track featuring legandery Dean Parrish βLeft, Right and Centreβ is a remake of Paul Wellerβs original and has worked its way into DJ boxes around the globe.
Smooveβs recent collaboration with singer John Turrell has resulted in the release of the highly acclaimed album βAntique Soulβ on Jalapeno Records.Their debut single βI Can't Give You Upβ was record of the week on BBC Radio 2 and their second single βYou Donβt Knowβ was playlisted at BBC 6 Music.
DJ's like Craig Charles, Mark Lamarr, Annie Nightingale, Janice Long and Marc Radcliife have all been showing love for the band.
Smoove and Turrell are currently touring with there 7 peice band. Highlights include playing live sessions on BBC 2, BBC 4, BBC 6 and performing at Glastonbury Festival,The Big Chill Festival and Kendal Calling Festival.
βSmoove is simply one of the best DJs i have ever heard. And in fact not many DJs are mixing βoldβ and βnewβ styles as fresh and skilled as Smoove.β
(Acid Jazz Records founder and DJ legend Eddie Piller)
'Sure to be one of the best albums of 2009 - This should be the future of Soul music in my book!'

U Got It
Smoove Lyrics

Below your knees
And grab the beat, and
"Do It How You Feel"
Pass it back to me
I grab the beat
Just watch my feet
I show you I got skills
I swing, I pause
I brought the sauce
I Do It How I Feel
I Jigg, I stop
I Milly and Whop
I Slide and Lock
I show you I got skills
Yea, Yea, Yea
Show you I got skills
Yea' Yea' Yea'
Show you I got skills
Just swing your arms
Below your knees
And grab the beat and
"Do It How You Feel"
Competition! I see no competition
Stand in my position
These shoes you can't walk an inch in
Not to mention
My swag is So-So different
Jumped in the huddle
I hustle and go the distance
Swinging for a homer
I'm deadly like a Cobra
Shrek I'm an Oger
I Turn Hulk and then it's Over
My shoulders get to shaking
I get crump and then I throw up
Chicago with my footwork
Then I freestyle and I slow up
I might just hit the NaeNae
I don't care what he say
I Milly Whop, then Diddy Bop, Now put this song on replay
I'm talking to the DJs
Got Tio's that are DJs
I turned this to a dance song
So you can get your dance on
The rhythm hits my chest
Might hit 'em with The Flex
I Dab, I Dip
Might hit 'em with the Wrist
All my moves are lit
I Carlton just like this
The Floss, the Twist
The Dougie or the Whip
Just swing your arms
Below your knees
And grab the beat, and
"Do It How You Feel"
Pass it back to me
I grab the beat
Just watch my feet
I show you I got skills
It goes back and forth
I swing, I pause
I brought the sauce
I Do It How I Feel
I Jigg, I stop
I Milly and Whop
I Slide and Lock
I show you I got skills
Yea, Yea, Yea
Show you I got skills
Yea, Yea, Yea
Show you I got skills
Just swing your arms
Below your knees
And grab the beat, and
"Do It How You Feel"
Competition, I call for competition
Bring your whole dance crew
Do your favorite dance moves
Yea' Yea' Yea' Yea'
Competition, I call for competition
Calling all old school
Show your favorite dance moves
Yea' Yea' Yea' Yea'
Competition, I call for competition
You can stay in your seat
Move your arms
Move your feet
Yea' Yea' Yea' Yea'
Just swing your arms
Below your knees
And grab the beat, and
"Do It How You Feel"
Pass it back to me
I grab the beat
Just watch my feet
I show you I got skills
It goes back and forth
I swing, I pause
I brought the sauce
I Do It How I Feel
I Jigg, I stop
I Milly and Whop
I Slide and Lock
I show you I got skills
Yea, Yea, Yea
Show you I got skills
Yea, Yea, Yea
Show you I got skills
Just swing your arms
Below your knees
And grab the beat and
"Do It How You Feel"
