Land of Freedom
Snowy White Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I would like to take you
To a land of freedom
Where the music's playing
Brown eyed girls are dancing
'Til the sun goes down
Where the fighting's over
The Earth becoming greener as the years go by
Where truth is being spoken
And no hearts are being broken
Reach for the sky

I'd like to take you there
I'd like to take you there
I'd like to take you there
Yes I'd like to take you
But its such a long way

To the land of freedom
Land of freedom
Land of freedom
Land of freedom

I would like to take you
Where the sun is shining
Across a sea of plenty
Floating on the waves under the evening sky
Reflections of the future
Will turn away the shadows of those memories
Always will be laughter
In this land of freedom
That is so far away from here

I'd like to take you there
I'd like to take you there
I'd like to take you there
Yes I'd like to take you
But its such a long way

Land of freedom
Land of freedom
Land of freedom
Land of freedom
Land of freedom
Land of freedom

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Snowy White's "Land of Freedom" express a yearning to escape from the struggles and constraints of everyday life to a place of freedom, happiness, and joy. The song creates an image of a utopian world where people can dance, have fun, and live in peace. White invites the listener to this imaginary place where music and laughter are the norm, and where people can reach for the sky without any fear. The lyrics suggest that in this land of freedom, people can be themselves without any prejudice or judgment, and the world is becoming better day by day with people speaking the truth and no hearts being broken.

The song presents an idealistic view of the world, one that may be unattainable but is still worth striving for. The lyrics suggest that this land of freedom is far away, and perhaps difficult to reach, but White would still like to take the listener there. The yearning expressed in "Land of Freedom" is not only a personal longing but also a universal one, a yearning for a better world, a world without pain or suffering, a world where people can be happy.

Overall, Snowy White's "Land of Freedom" is a song that speaks to the human desire for freedom, happiness, and peace. It invites us to dream big and believe that a better world is possible.

Some stunning pics to accompany this! I bought the single version of this (7" vinyl) way back late 1984, and i still have it. It came as a double single package, with Snowy's previous huge hit 'Bird Of Paradise', which i wasn't a big fan of when it came out at the end of the previous year, but that was my big mistake. As the new (unintentional) owner of said song, i gave it a spin, and grew to appreciate how wonderful it was/is. The B-sides ('The Answer' & 'Good Question') also became favourites of mine. Snowy is so criminally underrated!! The world should hang it's head in shame! But this is the track that really started it all for me...   \m/   (:o)

It's funny, not until long ago I didn't really love his songs (I started with discovering Bird of Paradise and Midnight Blues). I really had to get used to his voice. But that is with many other guitarists as well, so obviously I gave it a go.

Then somewhen later I started to get used to his voice, and wanted to discover more songs, they were (The Time has Come and Can't Find Love). Then somewhere far in my brain, I knew these songs already. Both of these songs had one small little part that sounded really similar to me.

... It appears that my dad played this a lot in the car when we went on holiday.

It also appears he has an old CD in the cupboard

Bertram Hilhorst I know what you mean about his voice, not the best but that wonderful guitar playing redeems it!
