Purple Haze
Snuff Lyrics

Lately things don't seem the same
Actin' funny but I don't know why
'Scuse me while I kiss the sky
Purple haze all around
Don't know if I'm comin' up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
Help me
Help me
Oh I don't know
Yeah!
Purple haze was all in my eyes
Don't know if it's day or night
You've got me blowin', blowin' my mind
Is it tomorrow or just the end of time?
Who knows?
Help me
Yeah
Come on now
Tell me
Tell me
The lyrics of Snuff’s “Purple Haze” have a deep existential meaning that does not follow a structured narrative. It is a song that explores the confusion and uncertainty that one can experience while under the influence of drugs or a strong infatuation. The purple haze, which represents the influence, engulfs the singer and leaves him in a state of confusion, inquiring whether he is happy or miserable. The opening line “Purple haze all in my brain” exemplifies the cognitive dissonance that occurs in the mind of an individual when under the influence.
The fifth stanza is a reference to the relationship between the singer and a girl who has placed a spell on him. He questions the relationship as he cannot tell if he is happy or miserable. The line “You've got me blowin', blowin' my mind” represents the level of emotional intoxication he is under. The song highlights the feelings of uncertainty, confusion and disorientation which one can experience when under the spell of an influence.
