Uzumaki
Softcult Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It doesn't matter to me now
Sick of dragging this dead horse around
So much weight we don't talk about
But it doesn't matter to me now

Circle around again
This vicious cycle's infinite
Like a dream where my teeth all fall out
On repeat
I keep telling myself

It doesn't matter to me now
House of cards fell apart on the ground
Built it up just to knock it down
Cuz it doesn't matter to me now

It doesn't matter to me now
It doesn't matter to me now

It doesn't matter to me now
It doesn't matter to me now

Overall Meaning

The song "Uzumaki" by Softcult revolves around the theme of breaking free from toxic relationships and patterns. The lyrics depict a sense of exhaustion and apathy towards a relationship that is no longer serving the singer. The line "Sick of dragging this dead horse around" signifies the burden of carrying on with the relationship that has already gone bad. The singer's numbness towards the situation is further emphasized with the recurring line "It doesn't matter to me now".

The lyrics also suggest a cycle of going back to the same toxic relationship, which is analogous to the spiral shape of a "uzumaki" or a whirlpool. The phrase "Circle around again / This vicious cycle's infinite" reflects the idea of being stuck in the same pattern of pain and disappointment. Comparing it to a dream where the teeth fall out on repeat, the singer implies that this recurring cycle is both inevitable and terrifying.

In the end, the singer comes to the realization that all the effort put into the relationship was pointless, as it ultimately crumbles like a "house of cards". The final repetition of "It doesn't matter to me now" signifies the singer's detachment from the relationship and their readiness to move on.

You guys literally dropped this song right after I finished reading the Uzumaki manga. That is a combination of Creepy and Epic. Don't know if something like that will ever happen again.

crewd00d

They dropped it right after they heard Two Way Mirror by Loathe.

My biggest respect to you for dropping this song again! It's even better that it was before. 💪

@mario rodriguez the original version of this song copped a lot of heat because it sounded way too much like Two Way Mirror by Loathe. The similarities were too obvious to ignore. I actually really liked the original, but yea, its was extremely suspicious. so I guess they decided to rearrange it and give it a fresh spin to make it more original. New version sounds great anyway.
