Angels of Death
Sonic Assassins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're angels of life, we're angels of death
We're born to blaze a nuclear way through space
A way out of the waste that held the human race
We're angels of life, we're angels of death
We are the dead who are never led
We are the warriors at the edge of time
We lurk inside your brain, hide inside your minds
We're angels of life, we're angels of death
We stalk the city streets to kill all we meet

Nostrils flare awhile, it makes you want to smile
We're born to erase, all of your days

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sonic Assassin's song, "Angels of Death," depict a group of beings who identify themselves as both angels of life and death. This duality is explained by their purpose - to "blaze a nuclear way through space" and create a path out of the waste that humans have created for themselves. The repetition of the phrase "angels of life, we're angels of death" reinforces the idea that their mission is simultaneously beneficial and destructive.

The song continues to describe the angels as warriors who exist at the "edge of time" and can manipulate their way into the minds of humans, using violence as a means of erasing all of their days. The imagery of their "nostrils [flaring] awhile" suggests a sense of excitement and pleasure in the chaos and destruction they cause.

Overall, the lyrics of "Angels of Death" touch on the idea that, in order for new life to emerge, there must be some level of destruction. The angels, while brutal and merciless, are seen as necessary agents of this destruction, encouraging listeners to consider what price humanity is willing to pay for progress.

I did have the whole concert on tape, recorded straight off the desk by Geoff Hocking, the sound man. It got lost when I moved house in 1998 - all my souveniers of a musical type were knicked by the removal men. Paul Hayles

This is awful! Magnu/Angels of Life from this gig is on a few releases and sounds excellent. I wish there'd just be an official release of the whole gig, the bits on Weird Tapes 1 and Friends & Relations Best Of sound awesome.

This is a terrible sound recording. There are a lot of better ones around. Paul Hayles, member of Sonic Assassins.
