It's Too Soon To Know
Sonny Til & The Orioles Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It′s too soon to know
Can I believe him
When he tells me so?
And is he fooling?
Is this all a game?
Am I the fire or
Just another flame?
A one sided love
Would break my heart
He may be just acting
And playing a part
If he don't love me
Let him tell me so
And I, I can′t hold him
If he wants to go
And though, though
I'll cry when he's gone
And I won′t die and I′ll live on
If it's so, it′s too soon
Way too soon to know
Does he love me?
Can I believe him?
And though, I'll cry
Though, I′ll cry when he's gone
And I won′t die and I'll live on
If it's so, it′s too soon
Way too soon to know.
The lyrics to Sonny Til & The Orioles's song "It's Too Soon To Know" is a love ballad that is sung from the perspective of a woman who is unsure of her lover's feelings. The first stanza starts with the woman asking herself if her lover truly loves her or if it is all just a game. She is worried that she may be just another flame to him and not the fire that he truly desires. The second stanza talks about how a one-sided love would break her heart and that her lover may just be acting and playing a part. She is willing to let him go if he does not love her back, but she wants to hear the truth from him.
The chorus talks about how the woman will cry when her lover is gone, but she knows that life will go on. She acknowledges that it is too soon to know if her lover truly loves her or not, and she is uncertain about how to proceed. The lyrics convey raw emotions of love and vulnerability that many can relate to. Overall, the song speaks to the uncertainty and complexity of romantic relationships and how even the strongest of emotions can be fragile.

The Orioles were my Michael Jackson, Prince, Frank Sinatra, rolled into one. I loved them in 1949, and I still love them now at 84 years young (smiles). I'm sorry they are not here any more, but they live on in my memories of days gone bye. Jesus is Love

@gutterpunk yes I know, I'm not serious. Actually I'm a fifties, not forties fan. When it comes to music and style. But not when it comes to attitudes to just about anything different, like a weird middle name (talking about England, the US is nothing but weird names), blacks, gays (horror!), unmarried couples living together, Jesus, some of it was like the present day but without the Maga hats.

I was a teenager in high school when I heard "Write and tell me why" by the "Orioles" in 1954. They were great and so was the song.
