Reprise
Sons of Ishmael Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On the barren and windswept plains of Hades
(One block from nowhere)
Is not where I want to be.

Overall Meaning

In the Sons of Ishmael's song "Reprise", the opening lines reflect a sentiment of being lost and isolated, away from civilization in a desolate place like the underworld, Hades. The reference to "one block from nowhere" adds to this feeling of being completely disconnected from everything. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for feeling out of place or disconnected from society, or perhaps simply feeling lost and without direction in life. The imagery of the barren and windswept plains also creates a sense of emptiness and hopelessness, emphasizing the feeling of being stuck and isolated.

The chorus of the song features the repetition of the phrase "No one knows me". This reinforces the theme of isolation and feeling misunderstood or unseen by others. The following lines about being "a stranger in my own hometown" further emphasize this idea of feeling disconnected from one's surroundings and community. The song as a whole seems to be exploring themes of alienation and disorientation, both geographically and emotionally.

my favorite of their four e.p.''s. probably due to the fact there is way more mixing it up with tempos and diversity of the songwriting and sounds. that would not mean a thing but it's as good if not the best batch of songs they wrote. And even though it's a tad (hehe, meaning small in this here disruption) more experimental it rocks just as hard as the rest of their terrific catalogue. anyone know where to get their lyrics plus history, info, pics, etc.
thanks for your posts. Quick suggestion for the next comp. How about Vancouver complication please! was born in 82 and while I've heard 75% more of all the comps I thought i would never actually here, that is not some tinny obscureo one anymore. highly praised and influental. also point me toward all of the life is... hyped and killed by (besides the first 14 and a few of the foreign ones) rare punk hits etc. And I just found out there have been like 40 bloodstains over.... comps put out in the last 4 years. too poor too purchase! I've still got my vinyls and I paid my dues for decades! I need free music, I need these old/new (with old shit) comps! keeps me going for reals

Try anarcho-punk.net for some more music. I'm not really much into online music downloading as I prefer to listen to the actual record or tape in my hands, but there are some great albums there. Especially the Borderless Countries Tapes (BCT) where they have some of the best Hardcore Punk bands the world over.

oh! and it's great to have what we have of the AZ bands/scenes , appreciate every JFA, Sphincter, ONS (this needs a brush up, hard to find), sun city girls, weird lovemakers etc., it's sorely lacking. And stuff from phoenix, tempe, glendale, Tucson ,mesa, and yeah even apache junction, etc. about 10 years ago was insanely strong and diverse and flat out kick ass. shout out to Labor Party, Shotgun Abortion/Social Reason, Fed Ups, Smoky Mountain Skullbusters, the Erps, Jeff Dahl, the Complainiacs, Big Bunny and the Cattle Thieves, Johnny Blood and the Transfusions, Christfucker, Nunzilla a.d.d., wfdog,80d, test pattern, greenhaven, swing doing amigos (the fact my band got to play shows with swing ding, cuntifiers, and Jeff dahl, locally, and sex slaves and dead pets, national bands was a huge success to me. I listened to sda and Jeff dahl at home! I became friends/fans of these great other groups after playing or seeing shows with rhem. Tweeker Chic( my band ), Big props to cut throat freak show! punk as fuck with no instruments. r.i.p. jugheads cypress lounge Sid. I don't live back but without a doubt very special and ridiculous fun time in my life
