Upon recording a few songs at a local studio, she decided to send the demos to three record companies, with no special expectations. Soon Sony Sweden gave her a phone call and offered her a record deal. At this stage, she had never played in front of an audience. Sophie started to record her self-titled debut album in 1995. The album was produced and arranged by Lars Halapi, a long time collaborator who has subsequently worked on all her material.

When I try to see you
Don't you know it's beyond me
Just to have you here
Some people would say
You're only dreaming
So how come I feel you
So excuse me if I
Say that I could die
For this world
You're showing me now
Why the doubt in your voice
When I try to tell you
Can't you see me standing
Right beside you
Some people would say
It could have been magic
Well, I won't forget the magic
Like I won't forget that day
So excuse me if I
Say that I could die
For this world
You're showing me now
So excuse me if I
Say that I could die
For this world
You're showing me now
The lyrics to Sophie Zelmani's song "Excuse Me" are a testament to the power of love and the confusion it can bring about. The song opens with the singer asking why the person they love is in despair when they try to see them. They are unable to understand why someone would be so upset when they are trying to show them love and affection. The singer then goes on to ask why there is doubt in the person's voice when they try to express their feelings. The confusion is palpable in the lines "Can't you see me standing right beside you?" The singer feels as though they are there, trying to connect, but the other person cannot seem to see it.
Despite the confusion, the singer is determined to love this person, even if it means risking everything. They declare, "excuse me if I say that I could die for this world you're showing me now." The love that they are experiencing is so powerful that it feels like the entire world has opened up and turned into something beautiful. The singer's love for this person is so strong that it is all they can see, and they would do anything to be a part of it.
Overall, "Excuse Me" tells a story of love that is so intense, it is almost overwhelming. The singer is struggling to understand why the person they love is unable to see how much they care, but they are willing to risk everything to prove their love. The song is a beautiful portrayal of the power of love and how it can be confusing and strange at times.
