Soulfly incorporates many styles of metal with Brazilian tribal and world music. All of their first six studio albums debuted on the United States Billboard 200, with a peak position at number 32 for their second album, Primitive. Soulfly has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The band has gone through numerous line-up changes, with Cavalera being the only constant member. In an interview with Max in 2015, it is revealed that the band's name was taken from the song "Headup" by Deftones, a song that Max collaborated on.

Soulfly Lyrics

Fear and wonder
Murder and murder
Chaos, disorder
Hate and pain
Will rise again
Nothing remains
Bring it on again
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
Inna Babylon
Hell on earth
Like a curse
War is hell
Time will tell
Apocalypse meets
The final disease
Death now creeps
The enemy within
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
Inna Babylon
United nations
Divided tensions
Body count rises
While leaders lie
Desolation
Separation
Sufferation
Confrontation
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
Inna Babylon
Desolation
Annihilation
Decapitation
Separation
Murder nation
Sufferation
Confrontation
Retaliation
Mutilation
Devastation
Confrontation
Too much tension
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
Inna Babylon
The lyrics to Soulfly's song "Babylon" paint a picture of a world consumed by violence, chaos, and destruction. The opening lines describe the ominous atmosphere with "lightning and thunder" and a feeling of "fear and wonder". The repetition of "murder and murder" highlights the prevalence of violence, and "chaos, disorder" emphasizes the lack of order and stability in society. The chorus of "On and on and on and on/Inna Babylon" emphasizes the cyclical nature of violence and destruction, as if the world is trapped in a never-ending cycle of chaos.
The second verse delves deeper into the consequences of a world consumed by violence. "Hell on earth/Like a curse" describes the devastation and suffering caused by war and violence. The reference to "apocalypse" suggests a world on the verge of collapse. The phrase "the enemy within" suggests that the root of the chaos and destruction lies within society itself.
The third verse turns to politics and the failures of leadership. The reference to the "United nations" and "divided tensions" suggests that even attempts at international cooperation are failing. The mention of a rising "body count" and "leaders lie" points to the corruption and deceit that often accompanies war and conflict.
Overall, "Babylon" is a commentary on the destructive tendencies of humanity, and the cycles of violence and chaos that we seem unable to break.
