Make Your Mind Up
Souls of Mischief Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Opio]
Eruptions, and rustin'
When I'm thrustin'
Cuts men
Into microscopic particles
Molecules, atoms
Attack 'em, hack 'em
Never slow, never slack
I'm invincible, _________ flow is intense at fools
Who know not, flow not like this wizard
Ya play with it, riddle
Widdle a hole in ya dome
And pull out ya gizzard
Trachiotomy
I slaughtta the
Watery-weak
Ya slips, there's a slobbly geek
Niggaz tweek
When I speak
They retreat,
Rethink what was spoken and then repeat
My feat
Of inhuman capabilities
Rape and pillage emcees
Then I kill emcees
Who have no style
I file niggaz down to the cuticle
Who can feel my foot prints
Soot gets kicked in your eye, beautiful
Blinding, Winding
Up and change-ups
Rearrange punks
When I drops, kerplunk!
Rip chunks
Out the mic
And then digest
Why test?
I'm cavin' in your chest when I express
Myself
Extreme confusion
You think you're losin' your mind
'cause my rhyme cuts holes like a nine

[Tajai]
Tajai, two syllables - easy!
With ease, we, seize thee, butt emcees be
Cause they come wacker than batman sound effects
I ground your text, but vertebrae wack I pound your necks
Sally bone, I be prone to rip shit, likely
Believe it or not, believe it I got the cock-D
Cacophony
I cap the phonies, so there is no needs for me
Your attempts deceive us
And pimps know I be
Excel irate
And on that scale
That's fail
The countenances
Of countless knit-wits
Who wish this
With mis hits
But this shit is equipped with
Homin' devices that are precise as they get, kids
Target's stuck to foes who pose muchly
Fronts be phucked and
Punk nuts, why gets amongst thee
Punks, we often cross
When soft men
Is the image portrayed to them
Spinach is no saviour when
I +Popeye's+, all of the guys feel my brutish
Strength, and +Wimpy's+ see haggard futures
Don't tempt me, shrimps we skewered on the barbie
My foot has found wit in ya

Is there any dillemma?
Yo- hardly

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Souls of Mischief's "Make Your Mind Up" contain two verses from two different members, Opio and Tajai. Opio's verse starts with metaphors of violent eruptions and rusting before boasting about his invincibility and intense flow. He threatens to file emcees down to the cuticle and testifies his ability to create extreme confusion with his rhymes that cut holes like a nine.

Tajai's verse starts with a wordplay on his name and proceeds to criticize weaker emcees who come with wack Batman sound effects. He boasts about his ability to rip apart anyone with his cock-D (cock diesel) mentality and precise homing devices. He then puts down false attempts at greatness and warns of the consequences for those who pose as foes.

"The Wu-Tang of the West" But remember the West coast THE BEST COAST. HIEROGLYPHICS/SOULS OF MISCHIEF are the best group ever imo, wordsmiths, Lyrical geniuses, and changed the way people rapped. The multi's, thought pattern, and rhyme scheme was something special. This is proof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58a5fzh0tJo&feature=youtu.be Eminem and Andre 3000 were influenced by Hiero and says they are "RAPPERS RAPPERS"

The world needs a JUICE CREW, WUTANG, HIEROGLYPHICS reunion/celebration of hip-hop!! Real hip hop. Those 3 crews arguably defined the golden age of hip hop. Hieroglyphics crew is best imo though.

93' Til Infinity, 3rd Eye Vision, and Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resoultion.... Those 3 albums are better than any 3 and other crew can assemble. Add in Full Circle for Trilogy if you prefer and its a wrap. Souls of Mischief/Hieroglyphics flows were sacred writings. Thats what Hieroglyphics means: sacred writings.

And that's only 5 of my fav tracks of their.... they have DOZENS of songs better than most rappers/crews BEST.

For all those who've probably never even used a VCR or held a Cassette. Does Big Daddy Kane mean anything to you??? THE G.O.A.T!!! All I can say is:

Whodini - friends
KRS-ONE- 9mm goes bang
Big Daddy Kane - Aint no half-steppin'
O.D.B - Brooklyn Zoo
EPMD - You're a customer.
Souls of Mischief- Make your mind up.

I could have said 100's of other songs. But these WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE just like this SOM song and make the youngin's out there realize THEY DON'T NEED TO LISTEN TO ANY MODERN "EAR CANCER" Like Nas said in 2006 "Hip-Hop is dead". Rap really died with Big L in 1999 but was put out of its misery in 2004 with O.D.B.

R.I.P Legends!!

There's an ARCHIVE of Golden Age Hip-Hop to be unearthed and cherished ..... FROM 93' TIL.....

I had to vent bc I wanna reinforce that everything after the early 2000's has become degenerate to the genre. One love

Hip Hop was in a true renaissance back then. Every lyric was held to such a high standard. Every beat too. This was when it was truly an art form and not simply a vehicle to make money. And it was anything but pop. It was an underground counter culture. You had to stay awake to find new shit. But if you paid attention, there were so many dope artists to stumble upon. And when you were the one to turn your friends on to new records, it felt like a badge of honor. I don't know how it can happen again, but I would love to see something like that again just one more time.
