Its members were multi-instrumentalists Joachim Toelke (primarily electric guitar), Graeme Fleming (primarily drums/percussion), and Phil Stewart-Bowes (primarily bass guitar). The trio formed in 1997, began playing live in 1998, and went on to release two recordings on the Turnbuckle label. (The label was also home to noise rockers Bailter Space). Their self-titled 1998 EP/mini album (also known as 33) was supposedly recorded in a ski chalet. Southpacific soon relocated to the more musically-fertile community of Toronto. Full-length album Constance was recorded in early to mid 1999, and made it to stores in early 2000.
Southpacific's guitar-oriented music was generally psychedelic in nature and filled with reverb, yet at times contained sheets of noise and heavy drumming. Their music was highly recording studio-intensive, using many layers of guitar tracks and subtle samples to create a dense overall sound. This drew the band comparisons to Sonic Youth, early Verve, Slowdive, Mogwai, and My Bloody Valentine. However, only one of the band's songs ("Built To Last") had vocals, making the band favorites of post-rock and ambient music aficionados. The band never released any singles.
Younger Than Springtime
South Pacific Lyrics

I touch your hands
And my heart grows strong,
Like a pair of birds
That burst with song.
My eyes look down
At your lovely face,
And I hold a world
Younger than springtime, are you
Softer than starlight, are you,
Warmer than winds of June,
Are the gentle lips you gave me.
Gayer than laughter, are you,
Sweeter than music, are you,
Angel and lover, heaven and earth,
Are you to me.
And when your youth
And joy invade my arms,
And fill my heart as now they do,
Then younger than springtime, am I,
Gayer than laughter, am I,
Angel and lover, heaven and earth,
Am I with you!
And when your youth
And joy invade my arms,
And fill my heart as now they do,
Then younger than springtime, am I,
Gayer than laughter, am I,
Angel and lover, heaven and earth,
Am I with you.
The lyrics to South Pacific's Younger Than Springtime paint a beautiful picture of a blossoming romance between two people. The song is sung by Cable who expresses his feelings towards his love interest. He talks about how his heart grows strong when he touches her hands, and how being with her makes him feel like he's holding the world in his embrace. He calls her his angel and lover, and expresses how being with her feels like heaven on earth.
The song is all about falling in love with someone who makes your heart feel happy and alive. Cable's feelings towards his love interest are so intense that he feels younger than springtime and gayer than laughter when he's around her. The lyrics highlight the beauty of love and the magic that it creates between two people. The song shows how being in love with someone can make you feel like you're on top of the world, and how they can bring joy and light into your life.

Your Dad was a unique talent. He also ghost sang Edelweiss for "Captain Von Trapp" in The Sound of Music. Two very mesmerizing songs as sung by your father. I am sure you heard much more from him. Lucky you, Diana! Thanks for sharing that.

Diana, I saw you on television talk about your Dad. He was a wonderful singer
and so versatile. I adored this film and saw it when very young indeed and
this scene is overwhelming as is rest of the film. John Kerr so handsome
and lovely with France Nuyen. You miss your Dad as I miss mine but I
won’t forget your father’s voice. Despite my user name I am a lady! Thank you.

This scene is one of the most incredible romantic scenes in musical history. Loved it in 1958 at age 13, and still love it today at 74. But now, I have venues where I can perform it myself! A dream come true.
Russell Thompson
One of the most romantic songs ever composed. Goosebumps!

At 67 years of age this beautiful song makes me long for my youth and brings tears to my eyes. So wonderful and just so beautiful. However most of the memories are of golden days!
