Endless Sleep
Spell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The night was black, rain fallin' down;
Looked for my baby, she's nowhere around.
Traced her footsteps down to the shore,
'Fraid she's gone forever more.
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say,
"I took your baby from you away."
I heard a voice cryin' in the deep,
"Come join me baby in my Endless Sleep."

Why did we quarrel, why did we fight?
Why did I leave her alone tonight?
That's why her footsteps ran into the sea
That's why my baby has gone from me.
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say,
"I took your baby from you away."
I heard a voice cryin' in the deep,
"Come join me baby in my Endless Sleep."

Ran in the water, heart full of fear,
There in the breakers I saw her near;
Reached for my darlin', held her to me,
Stole her away from the angry sea.
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say,
"You took your baby from me away."

My heart cried out, "She's mine to keep."
I saved my baby from an Endless Sleep.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Spell's song "Endless Sleep" tell the tragic story of a man who is searching for his lover, only to discover that she has drowned in the ocean. The singer is filled with remorse and searches for answers as to what led to her death. The rain symbolizes his sadness and grief, while the sea represents the unknown and death. The lyrics suggest that the couple had a fight or argument prior to her disappearance, and the singer blames himself for leaving her alone. He hears a voice calling to him from the deep, tempting him to join his lover in the afterlife. However, he chooses to go after her and saves her from an "endless sleep".

The song gives a deeper message about the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing loved ones while they are still with us. The singer's desperation to find his lover and his sorrow at her loss highlight the importance of holding onto and fighting for love. The song's melancholic melody and atmospheric instrumentation perfectly convey the emotions of the lyrics.

A GREAT song! Spell does it theeeee best of all I've heard. I mean, I'm a T. Rex fanatic and I also love The Poppy Family. This is better than both of those. Spell's version is much more haunting as it should be. The male voice at the end of the chorus gave me chills. Beautiful work my friends!
