Winter
Spike Jones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Winter time is freezing time
Teasing time and squeezing time
That's the time to love
Whistling ladies watch them go
Skimming on the ice and snow
Silver moon above
Winter, winter
When the snow is softly falling
That's the time to squeeze
When it starts to freeze
In october and november
And december just remember
Winter, winter
When your sweetheart comes a-calling
By the fireside so bright you'll sit and tease her
That's the time to squeeze her when it's winter
In october and november
And december just remember
Winter, winter
When your sweetheart comes a-calling

By the fireside so bright you'll sit and tease her
That's the time to squeeze her when it's winter

I've listened to Spike Jones all of my life - my mother had stacks of his 78s from way before I was born in 1950. I've bought many more of his records and CD collections since then, but I never heard this one before!

@Croonr1

The Mellomen on this recording are Bob Hamlin, Max Smith, Bill Lee and Thurl Ravenscroft

@sneedbreedley

That's got to be Thurl Ravenscroft!

@madspadilla2353

He was indeed a member of The Mello Men! They recorded a lot for Disney together.

@willthetrill4849

Very underrated Christmas song

@fromthesidelines

Recorded on November 6, 1952.

@jasobres

This sounds like a different take, because in the beginning they all sing in unison, while on the album, they harmonize throughout.

@the78prof72

This is the original 1952 single release version, though later reissues have tended to use an alternate take.
