Draco was adored by his parents. Yes he wanted to make his dad proud but that doesn’t mean he was abused. Not even in the books. but he had a strict path for Draco to follow. It should be noted however that Draco did do things Lucius told him not to do. Lucius tells him to end his rivalry with Harry Potter in Book 2, and also tells Draco to keep quiet about Death Eater activity.
Rowling commented that "The moment Draco got what he thought he wanted, to become a Death Eater, and given a mission by Lord Voldemort, as he did in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, reality finally hit him" because his dream was "so very different".
He was proud of it at first, scaring Borgins at Knockturn alley, bragging he was moving to bigger things. But after doing actual tasks (like being forced to torture Thorfinn Rowle by Voldemort, watching the muggle professor be devoured by Nagini) he started freaking out like Regulas Black, but he wasnt brave enough to switch side.
Heres his initial pride in book 6:
Malfoy yawned ostentatiously.
“I mean, I might not even be at Hogwarts next year, what’s it matter to me if some fat old has-been likes me or not?”
“What do you mean, you might not be at Hogwarts next year?” said Pansy indignantly, ceasing grooming Malfoy at once.
“Well, you never know,” said Malfoy with the ghost of a smirk. “I might have — er — moved on to bigger and better things.”
Crouched in the luggage rack under his cloak, Harry’s heart began to race. What would Ron and Hermione say about this? Crabbe and Goyle were gawping at Malfoy; apparently they had had no inkling of any plans to move on to bigger and better things. Even Zabini had allowed a look of curiosity to mar his haughty features.
Pansy resumed the slow stroking of Malfoy s hair, looking dumbfounded.
“Do you mean — Him?”
Malfoy shrugged. “Mother wants me to complete my education, but personally, I don’t see it as that important these days. I mean, think about it…When the Dark Lord takes over, is he going to care how many O.W.L.s or N.E.W.T.s anyone’s got? Of course he isn’t. It’ll be all about the kind of service he received, the level of devotion he was shown.”
