Ple… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least three bands that used the name Spo-Dee-O-Dee.
Please note that the preferred spelling for the Dutch 1990s alternative rock band from Amsterdam is Spo Dee O Dee.
1. Spo-Dee-O-Dee was formed in 1992 as a jive/swingin outfit by Andy Warner (originally playing double bass back then) and Mike Brushman (former members of Germany's doo-wop group, The BelAngels). Ralf joined in 1994 and they decided to play more and more rockabilly, which was always a part of their set. The result was a record contract with Tail Records in Sweden. Their two releases have reached international recognition and Spo-Dee-O-Dee became a solid act on the international rockabilly scene. After several other hot-selling records Mike found his love touring the USA and that's where he lives right now. After he quit Spo-Dee-O-Dee they played with several well-known German drummers until they found the perfect replacement in Mike Millet a.k.a. Maico, formerly of Junior Marvel and the Hi-Flyers.
2. Spo-Dee-O-Dee was a Hungarian rockabilly and swing band established in 1997 by Tamás Szabó and Zoltán Nemes.

Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
In Spain the best upper sets do it
Lithuanians and Letts do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Not to mention the Finns
Folks in Siam do it
Think of Siamese twins
Some Argentines, without means do it
People say in Boston even beans do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Romantic sponges they say do it
Oysters down in Oyster Bay do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Cold Cape Cod clams, 'gainst their wish, do it
Even lazy jellyfish do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Electric eels, I might add, do it
Though it shocks 'em I know
Why ask if shad do it
Waiter, bring me shadroe
In shallow shoals, English soles do it
Goldfish in the privacy of bowls do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
The lyrics of Spo-dee-O-dee's song, "Let Me In," present a playful and humorous look at the universality of love and attraction. The opening lines, "Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it," suggest that love and falling in love are natural and instinctual behaviors that occur throughout the animal kingdom. It emphasizes the idea that love is a fundamental part of life and transcends boundaries.
The following lines focus on different countries and cultures, highlighting that people from various backgrounds and nationalities also experience love. The references to Spain, Lithuania, Letts, the Dutch in Amsterdam, Finns, and Siam (now known as Thailand) underscore the global nature of love. The song implies that love is a common human experience that knows no borders or limits.
The lyrics also incorporate a touch of humor, mentioning unusual examples of animals and individuals who "do it" or fall in love. This includes referring to Argentines without means, suggesting that love transcends socioeconomic status. The line about people in Boston saying even beans fall in love adds a playful and lighthearted element to the song, highlighting that love can be found in unexpected situations or places.
Further demonstrating the song's humor, the lyrics mention examples of marine life and creatures that also partake in love. From romantic sponges to oysters in Oyster Bay, cold Cape Cod clams, and lazy jellyfish, the song playfully suggests that love can be found even in the most unconventional situations. The mention of electric eels and their shocking behavior adds another amusing twist to the lyrics.
The song concludes by mentioning English soles in shallow shoals and goldfish in the privacy of bowls, reminding listeners that love can be found in ordinary, everyday situations. The repetition of the line "Let's do it, let's fall in love" throughout the song emphasizes the invitation and celebration of love as a unifying force that brings people together, regardless of their background, culture, or even species.
Overall, "Let Me In" by Spo-dee-O-dee uses clever and light-hearted lyrics to highlight the universal nature of love. It playfully suggests that love is not limited to humans but can be found in various forms across the animal kingdom.
