1) Spoon is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas. The band was formed in late 1993 by lead singer/guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. Current members also include: Eric Harvey (keyboard, guitar, percussion, backing vocals) and Rob Pope (bass, backing vocals - replaced Joshua Zarbo in 2007).
After releasing their debut LP Telephono on Matador Records, the band signed with Elektra in 1998, but the contract was dropped soon after the band released A Series of Sneaks. In response the band released a two-song single titled The Agony of Laffitte (referring to Elektra A&R man Ron Laffitte). Eventually they signed to Merge Records.
Spoon has been met with widespread critical acclaim. Girls Can Tell, released in 2001, sold more copies than both their previous releases combined. Kill the Moonlight accomplished the same feat a year later. Gimme Fiction was released on May 10, 2005 and continued the trend of increasing popularity for the band.
Britt Daniel wrote much of the soundtrack to the 2006 film Stranger Than Fiction. Four tracks by Spoon are also featured.
The band released their sixth studio album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga on July 10, 2007; those who purchased the first pressing also received a bonus disc titled Get Nice!.
Transference is their seventh studio album. It was released on January 18, 2010 in Europe, and on January 19 in North America, to moderately positive reviews.

My Babe

Same walls every day and night
But there you were, there you are
Down somewhere we used to know
We used to go
Training our focus on late night TV, cheap wine
Showing up late, then we work quarter, quarter time
And I would get locked up
Hold my breath, sing my heart out
Beat my chest for my babe
Let our hearts beat in time
Let the love go on and on now
My babe
What do you get when you add it up?
The same walls every day and night
But there you were, there you are
Down somewhere we used to know
We used to go
What do I do when the skies open up their rain?
Oh, what do I say when the pressure comes down my lane?
Oh, I would get locked up
Hold my breath, sing my heart out
Beat my chest for my babe
Let our hearts beat in time
Let the love go on and on now
My babe
My babe
Mm-mm-mm-mm, mm-mm-mm-mm
Mm-mm-mm-mm, mm-mm-mm-mm
Mm-mm-mm-mm, mm-mm-mm-mm
Mm-mm-mm-mm, mm-mm-mm-mm
Oh, sign my name, hold my breath
Sing my heart out, beat my chest for
My babe
Let our love beat in time
Let our hearts go on and on now
My babe
Sign my name, hold my breath
Sing my heart out, beat my chest for
My babe
Oh, let our love beat in time
Let the love go on and on now
My babe
The lyrics to Spoon's song My Babe talk about the monotony of everyday life, but finding solace in the memory of a past relationship. The opening line, "what do you get when you add it up?" suggests that the singer is contemplating the repetitive nature of their life. They mention the "same walls every day and night," implying they are stuck in a routine. However, they find comfort in the thought of a former lover, who they used to spend time with in a place they both enjoyed.
As the song progresses, the singer talks about getting "locked up," holding their breath, and singing their heart out for "my babe." This suggests that despite being stuck in a life that feels routine and suffocating, they find release and escape in their love for this person. The repetition of the phrase "my babe" evokes a sense of devotion and intimacy.
The chorus repeats the idea of the love between the singer and "my babe" being in-sync, with their hearts beating in time. The repetition of the line "let the love go on and on now" emphasizes the idea that this love is enduring and will continue despite the challenges that come their way.
Overall, the lyrics to My Babe express the idea that love can provide a sense of escape and comfort in the midst of routine and monotony. It emphasizes the power of love to make even the most mundane moments feel special.

I’ll say it to anyone who’ll listen: Spoon should be one of the biggest bands in the world. There are bands headlining fests that don’t have an iota of their talent. Best rock band of the past 20 years, easy.

Spoon has this ability to make their songs just catchy enough to be enjoyable to listen to but never actually cross the line where they become sing songy and annoying. It's like they're teasing us by scratching the surface, leaving us wanting more after every listen. I like it
