Here I Am
Stacy Barthe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When will the daylight come?
When will the daylight come?
Will the daylight come?

Got interrupted
She's so destructive to my [?] on her hands
Only time she having time is when she's drunk
Waiting for the light, sun don't ever come
If that's life, is that life worth living?
'Cause last night I swore it was the last time

Said I wouldn't do it again
Here I am
Said I wouldn't do it again
Here I am

It's my pity party I got around to
I got all dressed up but nobody showed
So I dance by myself, drink by myself
Pass out in my clothes on the floor all alone

Said I wouldn't do it again
Here I am
Said I wouldn't do it again
Here I am, here I am
Right back in my [?] again
Right back where I started then
Said I wouldn't do it again
Here I am

Now watch me as I drink my pain away
From the rum in this bottle
Drink my pain away
From the rum in this bottle

Said I wouldn't do it again
Said I wouldn't do it again
Here I am
I said I wouldn't do it again
I said I wouldn't do it again
No, no, no, but here I am
Here I am, here I am now

Here I am, here I am
Here I am

Overall Meaning

"Here I Am" by Stacy Barthe is a song about addiction and the endless cycle of relapsing. The chorus of the song starts with an allusion to the dawn and the light it brings, but the underlying question is of when the singer would finally come out of the darkness of her addiction. She seems to be caught in a cycle of drug and alcohol abuse, and the only time she feels alive is when she's drunk. She is cognizant of the fact that her life is not worth living in such a way, yet she keeps repeating the same mistakes.

The lyrics describe the singer's "pity party," where she gets all dressed up but nobody comes. This metaphorically represents her inability to seek help, and the fact that she always ends up alone in her addiction. Despite her resolutions to not fall into the same trap again and again, she repeatedly finds herself in the same place "on the floor all alone." The repetition of the phrase "said I wouldn't do it again, here I am" in the chorus drives home the theme of breaking promises, relapsing, and feeling trapped within oneself.
