Not many can claim to have defined a sound but Mark Yardley and Dominic B should definitely be there if there's ever a ruck on the subject. The Stanton Warriors have carefully honed a distinct sound that carves up dance floors through 4 corners of the world sounding fresh and bringing something new to the party. As Dom said at the start of it all when he first saw the reaction to one of their tracks at the Notting Hill Carnival 'Everybody was dancing.' We're a few years down the line but it's still about 'everybody' and 'dancing' - there's just more people at the party!
Rise

Come up slow
The shapes we move in.
Breathe out,
Just let it go,
I feel you there.
And I let you be my guide
All of this in time
I know in time we'll rise
We'll rise
We'll rise
We'll rise
We'll rise
Breathe out
Breathe out
Breathe out
Breathe out
Drink down,
Come up slow.
The shapes we move in.
Breathe out,
Just let go,
I feel you there
And I let you be my guide
To somewhere we can hide.
All of this in time
I know in time we'll rise
We'll rise
We'll rise
We'll rise
We'll rise
You wake me up inside,
I know in time we'll rise.
Ooooh
You wake me up inside
I know in time...
...we'll rise
We'll rise
(I know in time we'll rise)
We'll rise
We'll rise
(I know in time we'll rise)
(I know in time we'll rise)
(I know in time we'll rise)
Breathe out
Breathe out
Breathe out
Breathe out
The lyrics of Stanton Warriors' song "Rise" describe an experience of letting go and surrendering to someone or something greater, allowing it to guide and comfort us through the difficult times. The song invites us to release our fears and doubts, and to trust that there is a safe haven waiting for us. The lines "Drink down, come up slow" suggest that we should take time to savor life, to inhale its beauty and exhale its challenges, without rushing or forcing anything. The "shapes we move in" may be the dance we make of our lives, the patterns we create and the spaces we occupy. The repeated phrase "we'll rise" reinforces the idea that the no matter how low we fall, we can always find the strength to get back up and face the world again.
Overall, the song appears to be a call to resilience, faith and hope, reminding us that even when we feel lost, alone or fearful, we are never truly alone, as long as we are open to the presence of something beyond ourselves. The repetition of the "breathe out" mantra also suggests that the act of breathing, of letting go of what no longer serves us, can be a powerful tool for transformation and self-awareness.
