Hurricane
Startisan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You shimmer like the Northern Star
And I'm just the guy with the
Telescope on the ground
You're rushing like a waterfall and I'm just the
dribbling of a faucet that won't turn off
I got concrete shoes, and you're
strapped to rockets,
If it's sink or swim, then I'm swiftly drowning
I'm on the ocean floor and you're out of the atmosphere

Why do I not see this coming?
The more I try, the less you're enamored
When it all plays out, well
who was I kidding?
To say you're out of my league
doesn't start to explain it
I'm a drop of rain and
baby you're a hurricane

I whipped out the big
guns, aimed to impress,
centered those cross-hairs on your chest
crossed my
fingers, pulled the trigger
just hoping for the best
you probably wish the

bullet had caught my head
but it landed in my foot instead

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Startisan's song Hurricane are about one person being hopelessly enamored with another, despite being aware that they are way out of their league. The first two lines immediately establish the power dynamic between the two, with the singer comparing their love interest to the Northern Star and themselves to a telescope on the ground. The metaphor is clear – the love interest shines brightly and is unattainable, while the singer is earthbound and unable to reach them.

The following lines continue with water imagery, with the love interest being likened to a rushing waterfall and the singer a mere dribbling faucet. The contrast is stark, and it becomes evident that the singer sees themselves as inadequate and inadequate for the relationship they desire. The singer even admits to having "concrete shoes," while the love interest is "strapped to rockets" – they are worlds apart, and the singer is aware of this fact.

Despite this, the singer cannot help falling deeper in love with the love interest, and they become even more aware of their own shortcomings. In the chorus, the singer compares themselves to a "drop of rain," while the love interest is a "hurricane." The metaphor is apt – the singer feels that their love for the love interest is small and insignificant compared to the love interest's intense and consuming presence.

The song continues with the singer attempting to impress the love interest with their own weapons – metaphorical weapons, that is. They "whip out the big guns" and aim to impress, but ultimately end up shooting themselves in the foot. Even though the love interest may wish the bullet had caught their head, the singer is only able to shoot themselves in the foot instead. The lyrics demonstrate an awareness of the singer's own unfavorable position and lack of ability to control the outcome of their relationship with the love interest, ultimately leading to the realization that they cannot compete with the love interest's power.
