The second half of the song takes a turn, as they "cross the mist" into the night, ever lost and yearning for a connection to the world beyond the veil. The singer expresses the desire to forget everything they see beyond the mist, as the pain of unfulfilled longing is too great to bear. They find solace in knowing that, across this boundary, there is another half of who they are, who walked alone a thousand years ago and who is protected by guardians on horseback, never to be separated. This dream of connection and belonging "never ends" and is "born again" every time the singer crosses the mist.
