Stef Lang is perhaps at first glance an unlikely troubadour. But the unique combination of her mixed heritage coupled with growing up in the remote working town of Ladysmith, BC (population 7500), provided just the right atmosphere to fuel Stef's youthful pursuit of truthful expression and self-knowledge.
This drive to achieve her ultimate expression eventually caused her to pack up her guitar and walk away from small town life of Ladysmith, BC at 17 and relocate, on her own, to Vancouver, a city of over 2 million, to chase her songwriting dreams and locate kindred spirits.
An extremely prolific writer and performer, Stef now works closely with many diverse and talented musicians in the vibrant Vancouver songwriting scene. This includes vocals on indie boys The Dudes latest record and a co-writing credit for “Dust In Gravity,” which will appear on Delerium’s upcoming album. She is also a participant in the respected weekly songwriting circle known as Hipjoint Throwdown, of which she has become a core member.
Stef recently penned a publishing deal with Nettwerk/H-Songs and was accepted to play @ The Canadian Music Café during The Toronto International Film Festival, which in past years has seen the likes of Martha Wainwright, City and Colour, Chantal Kreviazuk and Steven Page.
Diamonds

All the shining shimmering things, till there was nothing left
And I was once upon a time something worth fighting for
Until you won me and there was no need to fight anymore
So hang on
Cause the ribbon is slipping through your hands
And I'm falling into the earth
Misplace the diamond for its worth
Misplace the diamond for its worth
See all the good things in your hands won't last forever
And overthrowing your power won't make it better
And you could have had all of me while you had the chance
But maybe this time I won't be coming back
So hang on
Cause the ribbon is slipping through your hands
And I'm falling into the earth
Yeah I'm falling, yeah I'm falling
Yeah I'm falling, yeah I'm falling
Yeah I'm falling, yeah I'm falling
Hang on
Cause the ribbon is slipping through your hands
And I'm falling into the earth
Misplace the diamond for its worth
Misplace the diamond for its worth
The lyrics of Stef Lang's song “Diamonds” are about a woman who has given everything in a relationship and feels she is no longer valued. She describes herself as being “dressed up in ribbons” and “shining shimmering things” for her partner to undress, until there is nothing left of her. The woman feels she was once something worth fighting for, but since her partner won her, there is no longer any need to fight for the relationship. The ribbon slips through her partner's hands, and she falls into the earth, indicating she feels like she is losing control and slipping away.
The woman then advises her partner that all the good things in their hands won't last forever, and overthrowing his power won't make things better. She tells him that he could have had all of her while he had the chance, but maybe this time, she won't be coming back. The line “misplace the diamond for its worth” suggest that her partner has misjudged her value, mistakes her for something he can replace or does not fully appreciate what he has. The woman is done with the relationship, and wants her partner to understand that she will no longer be taken for granted.
The lyrics portray a sense of sadness and a longing for something lost. It reflects the experience of many people who put everything into a relationship and feel unappreciated or undervalued. The idea of a “diamond” represents something precious, and the woman's realization that she has been misplaced or misplaced herself implies that her partner has failed to recognize her worth.
