She is married to trumpeter Stefan Mross, with whom she has had one daughter, Johanna.

Hertel has won numerous prizes as a performer; her career began at the age of four when she appeared with her father Eberhard Hertel. She is considered one of the greatest Alpine yodelers performing today.
