He first started out in 1980 when he formed the band "Grauzone" with his brother. From 1982 on he sang solo and had his breakthrough in Switzerland in 1985 with the album "I tell this night".
In April 2007 he released his newest album: Eldorado. From his website:
"It seems that Stephan Eicher had this album in mind for a long time; almost fifteen years… Since « Carcassonne », when he was already thinking about reinventing himself, after six years of real success (Two people in a room, Combien de temps, Déjeuner en paix, Pas d’ami (comme toi…).
With 2003's generous "Taxi Europa", marked by continental climates, he went in a different direction, around the old continent. “By the end of this long tour, I couldn’t stand the idea of singing out loud. I felt like singing for myself or for someone. As a coincidence, I began to compose new songs in places where I couldn’t make so much noise. In the Camargue, there was a dog barking each time I started to sing. In Brussels, I had almost to whisper melodies to avoid waking up the child sleeping next to me. Progressively, I began to place my voice differently”.
Eldorado was born like that, in hushed silence, in the secret of the nights. And as usual with Stephan, the voice has opened the way. Softened, contained in intimacy, it drove all the instruments choices implicitly. It had to be organic, with grain, matter, in order to give more space to silences, a figurative instrumentation, almost a real original soundtrack which could tell what the voice was concealing."
COME ON HOME

Come on home
You're too long gone
Please come home
Seems like a lifetime
Since you walked out that door
It's only perfume
Do I remember
The color of your eyes
Is it green or grey
Grey or blue- what did we do
Come on home
You're too long gone
'll sink like a stone
If you don't come home
It was a quiet word
It sounded like breaking
Sounded like my little world
Like the end of it
I'm dancing with a shadow
Hanging in the air
Like some forgotten arrow
I'm flying nowhere
Nobody slams doors
Like you do
And nobody loves like you
When you do
Come on home...
Come up the stairs
Take out your key
Open that door
And lay between the sheets and me
Come on home...
I stare at the phone
Waiting for the tone
If you ever were alone
Come on
Sing along
In Stephan Eicher's song "Come On Home," the singer implores their partner to return home after what seems like a long time away. The singer recalls memories of their loved one, wondering if they remember the color of their eyes, and it seems apparent that the relationship ended in some hurtful way. The singer vividly recalls the sound of their partner slamming doors when angry, but also acknowledges their partner's capacity for love. Their longing for their lover is palpable in the refrain, where they plead for them to return home: "Come on home, You're too long gone, I'll sink like a stone, If you don't come home."
The song expresses the emotions of separation and longing in a powerful way, with Eicher's evocative voice bringing to life the singer's sense of loss and confusion. The lyrics suggest that the relationship was marked by intensity, with a lot of passion and emotion driving both partners. Now that it's over, the singer feels lost, trying to find their way without the person who used to be their anchor. They wait expectantly for the phone to ring, hoping that their loved one will call them and come home.
