After a friend mentioned to Steve that Andrew Lloyd Webber was looking for a performer to play the part of Jesus. Seizing the opportunity to showcase his 3½ octave range voice, Steve was determined to get the part. Despite his lack of West End experience, Steve won the role of Jesus from the thousands who auditioned - leading to that memorable headline about the origins of the Son of God! His performance was a revelation and his face was seen on bus shelters across the capital. On one television performance from the show he not only had Andrew Lloyd Webber weeping, but also managed to sell £160,000 worth of tickets to “Superstar” in half an hour!
Steve and Storys bandmate Rob have also been working on progrock project CD ChimpanA, which Steve's vocals feature on

Into the busy city streets
Swear I heard you whisper my name
Made me miss another heartbeat
Sure I saw your face--
Alive in every passing stranger
Felt your breath like a sweet caress
Til there was nothing left
Every time I hear your voice
You let me know the love survived
Holding on for another day
Nobody can take your place
An angel in a state of grace
Shadows fall when you close you eyes
I hear you walking down to the church
Past the house we used to love
Try to hide you picture out of reach
But you're always high above me
Standing face to face
A beautiful familiar stranger
I'm on my knees like a summer breeze
Under the wishing tree
You give me the strength to carry on
Every time I hear your voice
You let me know the love survived
Holding on for another day
Nobody can take your place
An angel in a state of grace
Shadows fall when you close you eyes
Sometimes in the dead of night
You come for me
I reach out my hand to you
Ready to give up this fight
You give me the strength to carry on
"Reverie" by Steve Balsamo is a heartfelt and emotional song that explores themes of love, loss, and the power of memory. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the singer encountering someone from their past, possibly a former lover, as they step down from a train into a bustling city. The encounter brings about a flood of emotions, symbolized by the line "Swear I heard you whisper my name, made me miss another heartbeat." The singer feels a deep connection with this person, and their presence is so strong that even in the passing strangers, they see glimpses of their face.
The song expresses the enduring power of love and memories. Even though this person is physically absent, their voice is still heard, reminding the singer that love can survive and endure. This sentiment is captured beautifully in the lines "Every time I hear your voice, you let me know the love survived. Holding on for another day, nobody can take your place." The person from the past is seen as an angel in a state of grace, providing strength and comfort, especially in moments of darkness and uncertainty.
The singer yearns for the connection to be more tangible, as they try to hide the person's picture out of reach, but they remain high above, always present in the realm of memory and nostalgia. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and a desire to reunite, as the singer kneels before the person like a summer breeze under a wishing tree, hoping for the strength to carry on.
In the final verse, the song takes a slightly darker turn, suggesting that the singer has moments of despair and considers giving up. However, the person from their past, in their ethereal presence, gives them the strength to keep fighting and moving forward. The song touches upon the belief that the memory of love can act as a guiding force, sustaining the spirit even in the darkest times.
Overall, "Reverie" is a poignant and introspective song that explores the complexities of love, loss, and memory. It delves into the enduring power of connections and how the memory of someone can provide the strength to carry on.

Saw you stepping down from the train
I noticed you disembarking from the train
Into the busy city streets
Entering the bustling streets of the city
Swear I heard you whisper my name
I am certain I heard you softly say my name
Made me miss another heartbeat
Caused my heart to skip a beat
Sure I saw your face--
Without a doubt, I glimpsed your face
Alive in every passing stranger
Alive and present in every stranger passing by
Felt your breath like a sweet caress
Sensed your breath, akin to a tender touch
Til there was nothing left
Until nothing remained

And I found myself sending kisses through the air
Every time I hear your voice
Each instance when I listen to your voice
You let me know the love survived
You assure me that our love endures
Holding on for another day
Clutching onto hope for one more day
Nobody can take your place
No one can replace you

A heavenly being filled with grace
Shadows fall when you close you eyes
As you close your eyes, darkness envelops
I hear you walking down to the church
I perceive your steps towards the church
Past the house we used to love
Past the dwelling we once cherished
Try to hide you picture out of reach
Attempting to conceal your image, beyond my grasp
But you're always high above me
Yet, you are always elevated above me
Standing face to face
Standing directly in front of one another
A beautiful familiar stranger
A captivating and known stranger
I'm on my knees like a summer breeze

Under the wishing tree
Beneath the tree where wishes are made
You give me the strength to carry on
You bestow upon me the fortitude to persist
Sometimes in the dead of night
Occasionally, during the darkest hours of the night
You come for me
You come to me
I reach out my hand to you
I extend my hand towards you
Ready to give up this fight
Prepared to surrender this struggle
You give me the strength to carry on
You grant me the strength to persevere
