Your Move
Steve Howe Lyrics

I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
So satisfied I'm on my way.
I've seen all good people turn their heads each day
So satisfied I'm on my way.

Take a straight and stronger course to the corner of your life.
Make the white queen run so fast
She hasn't got time to make you a wife.

Cause its time, its time in time
With your time and its news is captured
For the queen to use.
Move me on to any black square,
Use me any time you want,
Just remember that the goal
For us to capture all we want, anywhere,
Yea, yea, yea, yea, yea

Don't surround yourself with yourself,
Move on back two squares,
Send an instant karma to me,
Initial it with loving care
Don't surround
Yourself.

Cause its time, its time in time
With your time and its news is captured
For the queen to use.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit dont surround
Didda, yourself with yourself.
Don't surround yourself with yourself,
Move on back two squares,
Send an instant karma to me, send an instant
Initial it with loving care karma to me.
Don't surround yourself.

Cause its time, its time in time
With your time and its news is captured
For the queen to use.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda.
Diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit diddit didda.

Cause its time, its time in time
With your time and its news is captured.

I've seen all good people turn their heads
Each day so satisfied I'm on my way.
I've seen all good people turn their heads
Each day so satisfied I'm on my way.

Seen all good people turn their heads
Each day so satisfied I'm on my way.

I've seen all good people turn their heads
Each day so satisfied I'm on my way.
Seen all good people turn their heads
Each day so satisfied I'm on my way.

Seen all good people turn their heads
Each day so satisfied I'm on my way.
Seen all good people turn their heads

Overall Meaning

The song, "Your Move," by Steve Howe, is a classic rock song that features two distinct sections. The first part, "Your Move," describes the journey of a person who has decided to leave his life behind and embark upon a new journey. The second part, "All Good People," is an ode to individuality and the importance of living life on one's own terms.

In the "Your Move" section, the lyrics speak of taking a "straight and stronger course to the corner of your life," which suggests that the journey to fulfillment requires a person to take the most direct path to their goal. The line "Make the white queen run so fast she hasn't got time to make you a wife" suggests that one should not be held back by conventional expectations and societal norms, but should rather make their own choices in life. The reference to the "queen" suggests that the journey is a game, and one must learn to play it well to win.

The "All Good People" section is more of a celebration of individuality. It speaks of people who are "so satisfied" with their lives that they turn their heads each day. The repetition of this phrase suggests that the singer is impressed with the confidence and self-assuredness of these individuals. The repeated line "I've seen all good people turn their heads each day so satisfied I'm on my way" reinforces the idea that one must remain true to themselves to find satisfaction in life.

I'm really glad I found this. Thanks to Steve Howe for posting it. I've been searching Google for the chords for this song. The websites I've found have a wide variety including E alternating F#m, E alternating A, and one had E, F#m, G#m, F#m. It appears that Steve is playing E, F#m, G#m, A.

Listening to the original recording to me the verse sounds more like a combination of E, F#m, G#m, F#m with the climax as shown here E, F#m, G#m, A with the A chord repeated for a total of 4 bars. But each verse/chorus has a different number of the first pattern. This is what I hear (lowercase means minor chord):

E f# g# f# (3X) E f# g# A A A A
E f# g# f# (5X) E f# g# A A A A
E f# g# f# (3X) E f# g# A A A A
E f# g# f# (4X) E f# g# A A A A

This gives you an odd number of bars because the climax pattern is 7 bars, but hey, this is progressive rock.

Steve - I hope you see this. I just wanted to thank you for all the great music over the years. I'm 56 and have been a Yes fan since the first album and have been playing for 45 years. You remain my favorite guitar player. I am still amazed at how you take music to new places. Loved the concert on Direct TV's channel 101 with Jon, Alan and Chris. Thanks again - Mike

I love that Steve Howe and other artists (Nancy Wilson comes to mind) are putting up these videos to show how they played (and created) this beautiful music. It's great and I hope I can find more of the same, and maybe someday I can learn even play a lick or two. Great stuff!!!

Are there any videos of Steve using this version on an acoustic guitar in concert rather than the Portuguese 12-string? The closest I've found is at the Glastonbury Festival 2009, where he uses a regular 12-string guitar.

For your amusement I did find him doing this on the Craig Kilborn show. He also used different higher register chords for the main chord progression which I liked much better.
