Little Wing
Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running 'round
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind

When she's sad she comes to me
Thousand smiles she gives to me
Said, "It's all right, take anything you want"
Anything, take anything you want, hey

Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running 'round
Butterflies and zebras, fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Ever thinks about, hey, hey

When I'm sad she comes to me
A thousand smiles she gives to me free

Said, "It's all right, take anything you want"
Anything (anything), (anything) anything you want

Overall Meaning

The song "Little Wing" by Steve Winwood was originally written by Jimi Hendrix and is a tribute to Hendrix's short-lived muse, who was like a fairy, always running wild through his mind, inspiring his music. The lyrics describe a girl who is constantly lost in her own exciting world of fantasy, filled with whimsical images like clouds, zebras, and fairy tales. She has a carefree spirit that is exhilarating to be around, and when the singer is feeling low, she comes to him with open arms, bringing a thousand smiles and offering him anything he wants.

The circus imagery suggests that the girl is both playful and fearless. Her mind is always running around, exploring and imagining new things. The singer admires her boundless energy and creativity, and gets lost in her world of butterflies and zebras whenever he's around her. She brings him joy and comfort, and when he's feeling down, she reminds him that everything is going to be alright and he can have anything he desires.

Overall, the song has a dreamy quality to it, conjuring a magical atmosphere that transports the listener to a different time and place. It's a poignant tribute to a woman who inspired some of the most iconic music of the 1960s.

thanks friend. I had an older sister of six yeas who pretty much took me all over the concert scene around the N.Y. C. the Island gigs and even Woodstock and the civil rights protests in D.C.as an 10 - 13 year old kid. She's past now and these tunes bring back so much of the unity we had back then. It was a righteous time and the music was real as we stood together in the fight for civil rights ,world peace an social justice. . The music ment so much. We were willing to give our lives. yeah and that was something.

They complimented each other magnificently. Eric Clapton solo was from the heart and the best I've ever heard him sound. He should duplicate and never deviate from this great solo. Steve Winwood was magnificent. How could anyone thumbs down this?
