Habits
Steven Cooper Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Figure out where i failed
Find the beauty in the pain
I'm gonna take some time time to fight these demons deep inside me
I think it's time they went away
And i don't care maybe I'm dumb
I don't care if it's all fun
I don't care to go down that road
I don't want anymore reasons
I don't want to feel so low
And I'm sayin all these habits die hard
All they do is leave scars
You don't have to look to far
To see that all these habits die hard keeping you behind bars
You don't have to look too far
I'm gonna be much better
Gonna be much better
Gonna be who I really am
I'm gonna be much better
Gonna be much better
gonna be the man i know i can
I'm gonna be better
Yeah
Try to right what I've wronged
Find a way to move on
Cause I believe that people can change
I've been lying to myself
I've been dying to get help
Cause i just want to stop this game
And i don't care maybe I'm dumb
I don't care if it's all fun
I don't care to go down that road
And i don't want anymore secrets
I don't want anymore reasons
I don't want to feel so low
And I'm sayin all these habits die hard
All they do is leave scars
You don't have to look too far
To see that all these habits die hard keeping you behind bars
You don't have to look too far
I'm gonna be much better
Gonna be much better
Gonna be who I really am
I'm gonna be much better
Gonna be much better
gonna be the man i know i can
I'm gonna be better
Gonna be better (repeats)
I'm saying all these habits die hard
All they do is leave scars
You don't have to look to far
To see that all these habits die hard keeping you behind bars
You don't have to look too far
I'm gonna be much better
Gonna be much better
Gonna be who I really am
I'm gonna be much better
Gonna be much better
gonna be the man i know i can
I'm gonna be better
The lyrics of Steven Cooper's "Habits" speak about taking time for oneself and finding a way to move forward from past mistakes or bad habits. The song talks about the need to face the demons within oneself, recognizing that habits die hard, and they only leave scars. The singer in the song wants to change and be better, and the lyrics reflect the struggle to overcome past mistakes, lies, and secrets that have led to feeling trapped and behind bars.
The opening lines of the song show a willingness to take a step back and reflect on one's failures to find the beauty in pain. The singer wants to fight the demons inside and let go of habits that are keeping them from being who they really are. They don't want to keep any secrets or reasons to feel low. The repeated phrase "all these habits die hard" emphasizes the difficulty of letting go of negative patterns and how they can leave lasting scars. However, the song suggests that people can change and be better with time and effort, as reflected in lines like "I'm gonna be much better" and "I believe that people can change."
Overall, the lyrics of "Habits" encourage self-reflection, growth, and change. They urge listeners to recognize their mistakes, face their inner demons, and strive to be the best version of themselves.

I listened to the 30 second glimpse on Instagram about 30 times… it was on repeat in my head. <3
I have been down the rabbit hole and back trying to put my finger on why I like this song so much. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait for this song. It made my heart race and dig deep into my soul, it hit a nerve and it was painful but in a really good way. If you were on board for “Life & Love”,“Stereotype” and “One Shot” you may ask yourself if you’re really listening to Steven Cooper, and yea you really are. :D
Down to the nitty gritty of why I like it so much… well… if you have ever felt like you failed at something really important (and really who hasn’t, I know I sure have) then this song is for you. Musically and vocally, “Habits” departs from Steven Cooper’s normal rap/hip-hop and a new sound emerges that is difficult for me to describe. While it is pretty clear Steven has enjoyed playing with rap, hip-hop, pop, dance, house this seems to be more into the ambient/chill/synthpop sound that personally really like and I am deep into ambient sounding music. I find the mixture of vocals and sound reminiscent of … yea something that I still can’t put my finger on (must be deeper down the rabbit hole). I really enjoy Steven’s humbled enduring way with a soothing vocal rasp that is oh so very pleasing to the ear you want to hear it on repeat… Well, I did.
Looking forward to hearing more experimenting by Steven and his team. <3 Blessings!

it took listening to this song for me to realize that I have to stop feeling sorry for myself and being scared because I have people counting on me to be successful. after this song I also listens to "one shot" and "I can" past 2 weeks have been hard but still amazing things have been happening yet I've been feeling my anxiety kick in and feeling scared and sorry for myself, thanks to this song I remembered why I grind in the first place and I remembered what was at stake. thank you Steven cooper

Nice song! We all have demons and it is refreshing to hear you write a song about it. On a side note, the best way to change might be to get to understand the demon and feel comfortable living life with it. Some demons never go away; they are part of us.

Very nice, Steven! Not the sound we've come to expect but the change is very raw, exposed and I love it. Awesome work!

Steven, you have a really great voice. You can rap, for sure, but let out some of your singing talent also. I REALLY like this song. (I also buy your tunes, but prefer non-expletives in your raps.) For exposure, try out for one of the singing or talent tv shows, or being a guest on a day talk show like Ellen, etc. I only want you to succeed, so we can get more positive vibes coming from you... Hang in there...
