Dancing With The Enemy
Still Remains Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You look back
Over your shoulder
To see what could have been
Do you want to see
What used to be
Someone you called friend

Dance with me
My enemy, to finish what was lost

These sheets we're wearing
Perfect for the occasion
This is where we dance tonight
All that you have to do
Is keep what we held onto
This is where we dance tonight
Tonight, tonight

Voices talking
He said she said
I don't care about that
This sensitive silence
Between you and I
I will be the one to break it

These sheets we're wearing
Perfect for the occasion
This is where we dance tonight
All that you have to do
Is keep what we held onto
This is where we dance tonight
Tonight, tonight

Dance with me
To finish what was lost (finish what was lost)
What was lost

These sheets we're wearing
Perfect for the occasion
This is where we dance tonight
All that you have to do
Is keep what we held onto

This is where we dance tonight
Tonight, tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Still Remains's song, Dancing With The Enemy, are quite cryptic. The song starts with looking back, over the shoulder, to see what could have been. The singer questions whether the person wants to see what used to be someone they called a friend. This suggests that something went wrong in their friendship, and the singer is trying to reconcile with their former friend, who is now an enemy. Hence the song's title, Dancing With The Enemy.

The chorus, "dance with me, my enemy, to finish what was lost," confirms that the singer wants to reconcile with their enemy. By dancing together, they would try to make up for what was lost between them. The second verse indicates that many voices are talking about them, but they don't care about it. The sensitive silence between them would be broken by the singer, who wants to dance with their enemy. The song's sentiment is therefore that the past is gone, but they want to move forward and reconcile, and dancing together is the way to do it.

I started listening to them with the screaming/clean vocals. This may be one of their best!!

I like how they have a lot of different styles in their arsenal I think it makes an Album awesome, If I had an all heavy album then except a heavy song in the middle but found this I would laugh and love it all the same. I don't know why people don't get that a lot of these songs are expirments for albums and if a band does something like this its just showing their talent.

@squiditch @UnQuebecoisBleu This is probably their most pop-y song, but if you listen to the album "Serpent" it is brutal. Still Remains reformed sometime in the last year with their original line up and will be releasing a new album. PS. They are SICK live.
