Message In A Bottle
Sting(스팅) Lyrics

Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day, with no one here but me, oh
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair, oh

I'll send an s.o.s. to the world
I'll send an s.o.s. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

A year has passed since I wrote my note
But I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life but
Love can break your heart

I'll send an s.o.s. to the world
I'll send an s.o.s. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my

Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

Walked out this morning, don't believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone at being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home

I'll send an s.o.s. to the world
I'll send an s.o.s. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my

Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

Sending out at an s.o.s.
Sending out at an s.o.s.
Sending out at an s.o.s.
Sending out at an s.o.s.

Sending out at an s.o.s.
Sending out at an s.o.s...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sting's song "Message In A Bottle" convey the loneliness and desperation of being stranded on an island. The singer is a castaway who has been alone for a long time, and his isolation is beginning to take its toll on him. This is evident in the line "More loneliness than any man could bear" which highlights the immense emotional burden that comes with isolation.

In his despair, the singer decides to send an s.o.s. to the world - a cry for help in the form of a message in a bottle. He hopes that someone out there will receive his message and come to his rescue. However, despite the urgency and intensity of his plea, he acknowledges that it has been a year since he wrote the note and he should have known from the start that there is no guarantee that anyone will receive it.

The final verse of the song adds a significant element of irony to the song. The singer walks out one morning and sees hundreds of billions of bottles washed up on the shore. It seems that he is not alone in his predicament - there are countless other "castaways looking for a home" who have likely sent out similar messages in bottles. The final line of the song is repeated several times, emphasizing the overwhelming feeling of isolation that the singer and the other castaways feel.

It's been a year since I wrote this note, and I am still stranded, all alone, amid the vast sea, separated from the rest of civilization, yearning for a way out of my predicament.

But I should have known this right from the start
It dawns on me that this outcome was always a possibility, that this predicament I find myself in was always something I should have seen coming, and yet did not.

Only hope can keep me together
The only thing that keeps me on the brink of sanity in this dire situation is the thread of hope that someone somewhere will come to my rescue, and this hope is all I can cling onto to keep my spirits afloat.

Love can mend your life but
I realize that love is a powerful force that can fix and repair one's broken life, but it's not something that can be conjured up out of thin air, especially when you are physically isolated and alone.

Love can break your heart
At the same time, love can also be a double-edged sword, capable of causing immense pain and hurt, which is perhaps what landed me into this situation in the first place.

Walked out this morning, don't believe what I saw
Today morning, when I woke up and stepped outside to look at the shore, I couldn't believe my eyes for what I saw next was spine-chilling and surreal.

Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
There are millions of bottles on the shore, which implies that my chances of being rescued have reduced, and the whole idea of hope is drifting further and further away from me.

Seems I'm not alone at being alone
Looking at so many bottles reminds me that there are others out there too, in a similarly stark and hopeless situation, facing loneliness and isolation just like me, which somehow gives me a bit of solace.

Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home
All these bottles, and their contents, represent abandoned souls who, like me, are looking for a place they can call home, a place where they belong, and find the human connection they so dearly crave.

Sending out at an s.o.s.
I am still sending out an urgent distress signal, hoping and praying that someone hears it, and comes to my rescue, and all the other bottles hope the same.

Ha ha that's smart

@plenghan

I saw him in Montréal one year ago, the guy is in top shape...

@GM-kz4qw

love this version...nice tempo and guitar arrangements.
Nothing, absolutely nothing will replace Stu and Andy (putting Sting’s amazing compositions through the right ‘Police treatment’) but this one does not disappoint.

@Bobfaber1992

Brasil?

@sullybiker6520

The two guitars make a big difference to the tonal breadth of the verses, and I missed Copeland's crazy tight snare. I agree, it's very different but I like what they did here.

@gentasepriandi999

My best version maybe live synchronicty..this version ok though with 2 guitar..but miss some drum fill by the only stewart coppeland. Its just me perhaps.

@sullybiker6520

@Genta Sepriandi No I entirely get it. This was the difference with Stewart and Andy. Stewart's style was always very energetic and the songs do feel different for it.

Couldn't agree more
