1. Stone was a female French singer who had a solo yé-yé career in the 60s. Born Annie Gautrat on July 31, 1947, she released ~12 EPs. Several of her songs have appeared on recent French 60s pop compilations like Ultra Chicks and Femmes De Paris. In 1966, she married French rock artist Eric Charden and they went on to form the popular duo Stone et Charden.
2. Stone was a thrash metal band that formed in Kerava, Finland in the mid-1980s. It released four albums during the late 1980s and early 1990s, before disbanding in 1991 to pursue different musical directions. Stone reunited to play a final set of concerts in 2000, and then again in 2008.
Despite their rather short career, Stone's legacy has provided inspiration for many of the countless metal bands who emerged during the popularity explosion of the genre during the 1990s. Perhaps the most notable of these bands is Children of Bodom, whose lead guitarist Alexi Laiho credits former Stone member and current Sinergy and Children of Bodom bandmate Roope Latvala as a major influence on his playing.
Along Roope Latvala, the other musicians that performed in Stone were bassist/vocalist Janne Joutsenniemi (currently in Suburban Tribe), drummer Pekka Kasari (later in Amorphis and Ajattara, currently in Pahuuden prototyyppi) and two other guitarists: Jiri Jalkanen, who was one of the founding members, and Markku Niiranen, who replaced Jalkanen in 1990.
3. STONE are also a punk rock band formed in Liverpool, United Kingdom, consisting of Fin Power (vocals), Eliiot Gill (guitar), Sarah Surrage (bass) and Alex Smith (drums). They released the first of a series of singles in 2020 ('Leave It Out') and the punkadonk EP in 2022.
4. Stone is also the name of a prog-rock group from Melbourne, Australia, fronted by bassist extraordinaire Keith Stone.
5. Stone is a '80s U.S. Disco Boogie group.
Overtake
Stone Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Make your neighbors rip their ears off
Go to the streets and look at the situation
Kick those fat asses and
Cry out these words
Bang your head, kill your soul
Let your fucking head explode
You'll go insane
Overtake, overtake
Overtake your life
Overtake, overtake
Make your body cry
Overtake, overtake
Overtake your life
Overtake, overtake
We're gonna destroy this old fashioned world
'Cos I wanna live full speed and
Fuck this place down
And there comes a man-of-honour, a warhero
It's good to be nothing but you're
Less than zero
Bang your head, kill your soul
Let your fucking head explode
Cut your veins, rip your brain
You'll go insane
Now you, you think that you're something
And you think that you're tough
Still you're just the same asshole
Like all of us
Look out, I'll take you down
There's no coming back
I just wanna I just wanna I just wanna live hard and fast
Overtake, overtake
Overtake your life
Overtake, overtake
Make your body cry
Overtake, overtake
Overtake your life
Overtake, overtake
Make your body fry
The lyrics of Stone's song "Overtake" can be interpreted in a number of ways, but one clear message that comes through is the desire to break free from the constraints of society and live life on one's own terms. The song encourages the listener to turn up the music and make it louder than ever before, to rebel against the status quo and take control of their own destiny. The imagery of "ripping off" one's ears and kicking "fat asses" suggests a rejection of mainstream culture and an embrace of raw, unbridled power.
The chorus of "Overtake" is particularly striking, with its repeated use of the phrase "overtake your life". This phrase can be read as a call to action, urging the listener to seize control of their own life rather than simply going through the motions. The stanza "We're gonna destroy this old fashioned world/'Cos I wanna live full speed and/Fuck this place down" is similarly provocative, with its suggestion of radical change and a desire to reject the past in favor of a more thrilling, dangerous existence.
Finally, the song's closing lines suggest a reckoning of sorts, with the singer boasting that they will take down anyone who stands in their way: "Look out, I'll take you down/There's no coming back." This provides a fitting conclusion to a song that is all about asserting one's power and taking control of one's life, no matter the cost.
