02.Pop's Love Suicide
Stone Temple Pilots Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can you figure out what I want
Pull the trigger with a pop gun
Mindless fools that aggravate it
Pick at you in desperation

Oh it's a love pop suicide
Oh I'm in love pop suicide
Oh I really don't know

Pop life living it is so real
Midwest farmers' kids are milkfed
Breed and incubate what you see
Ten years later here on t.v.

Oh it's a love pop suicide
Oh I'm in love pop suicide
Oh I really don't know

Father can't you love your woman
Father can't you teach your children
Long range love implosion short wicked
Short wave mind explosion

Oh I'm in love suicide
About a pop star homicide

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Stone Temple Pilots’ song “Pop’s Love Suicide” are heavily laden with themes of confusion, desperation, and a bleak sense of hopelessness. The opening lines, “Can you figure out what I want / Pull the trigger with a pop gun” suggest a sense of frustration and desperation, as if the singer is resorting to using a child’s toy to desperately try and get what he wants. The lines “Mindless fools that aggravate it / Pick at you in desperation” suggest that there are people around the singer who are antagonizing him, making his situation even more unbearable.

The chorus, “Oh it's a love pop suicide / Oh I'm in love pop suicide / Oh I really don't know” is almost haunting in its repetition, and suggests that the singer is caught in a self-destructive spiral of love and despair that he cannot control. The following verses continue to build on this sense of confusion and desperation, with lines like “Midwest farmers' kids are milkfed / Breed and incubate what you see / Ten years later here on t.v.” suggesting a sense of disillusionment with American culture and the “American dream”. The final verse, “Father can't you love your woman / Father can't you teach your children / Long range love implosion short wicked / Short wave mind explosion” is a plea for guidance and love, but the sense of hopelessness that pervades the song suggests it may be too late.

Wasn't a huge Linkin Park fan but Chester did a phenomenal job. One of my favorite STP songs.

K Robert Schlüter

Damn, I've never watched Chester with STP but this is really great! Sad both he and Scott are gone.

1, chester was such a good fit for STP... man.
2, this is a great version of one of the group's more underrated tracks.

Billy Hughes

Agreed. RIP Chester

the92project

this is a great rendition of this song. The Deleo Bros need to come back, music needs them.

The Cantrell Project idk what is it, but sans Scott they always felt so average.

Illusionistical

The 2nd song from Tiny Music... talk about breaking one out of the vault to play live! Amazing. Wish they did this more often with their new guy.

WOW! 1st time I watch Chester singing for STP, flawless singing! I must admit did not expected him to sound so much like Scott.

The Supernatural Anaesthetist

I've never been a fan of Linkin Bizquit so when STP fired Scott and hired Chester instead, I was less than pleased, but a few years later I gave them a listen.
The songs on the EP were better than in their past album, and Chester did a great job doing his own thing while maintaining the sound of Scott.
Much respect for Chester.
R.I.P. Scott and Chester.
