Same Graves
Storm the Sky Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Daniel
How easy it is to detest you, you hold your head so high
Higher than the world you think you own, but I know you're alone
No one sees your intentions, you're just a distraction
The only fake, fuckin' arrogant waste of time
And these are the words unspoken

Will
I see straight through the hope that you inspire
You keep the truth subliminal
You hide it behind your desire

Daniel
Nothing's heaven sent, yeah

Your God ain't got no throne
He's in a bed of roses with a blanket of thorns (With a blanket of thorns)
Did you really think you'd live forever?

Will
I see straight through the hope that you inspire
You keep the truth subliminal
You hide it behind your desire
I can feel you tremble a thousand miles away
You're livin' like a criminal
You're hidin', you're hidin' behind your faith

Daniel
God is like a lover that's left and never comin' back
Gets you thinking you're part of a plan
And when your heart stops beating, takes your place up in the sky
And gives it out to someone who died more righteous
I just can't help but question the love that He claims He has
For the human race that He herds in and out of the gates to His home
Disciples stuck inside the fuckin' friend zone
Left to die alone with nowhere to go but up

Will
But still I see you screaming at the sky
Forgetting everything that you took from Him
The sacrifice you say saved your life

But still you wait to see the other side
(You're just another sinner when you keep the truth subliminal)
Leaving behind the world He designed, preferring to die
(You profit from manipulation, living like a criminal)

(You're just another sinner when you keep the truth subliminal)
When heaven is right in front of our eyes

Overall Meaning

The song "Same Graves" by Storm the Sky reflects on the idea of questioning religion and its followers. The song is a conversation between two people, Daniel and Will, who seem to have an understanding about a religious person who they both detest. Daniel is the one who sings most of the lyrics, criticizing the arrogance of this religious person who thinks they own the world but really are alone, without anybody seeing their true intentions. Daniel also questions the idea of God and his throne, stating that he is nothing but a lover who left and never coming back, playing with the human race by herding them in and out of his gates to his home. Will joins in to sing about the sacrifice that this religious person praises, but forgets about everything that they took from him.

The song highlights that while religion can provide a hope and bring people together, it can also be manipulated and misused by those who claim to be followers. It is a reminder to question things and not blindly follow what is being taught. The song ends on a hopeful note, reminding listeners that heaven is right in front of our eyes, and we should not look for it in a faraway place.

I find myself coming back to this song from time to time and that outro gets me everytime, it's eerily beautiful.

I feel like the video wants me to take it seriously but its very difficult when you're constantly distracted by the singer walking around, hand gesturing and looking like he's trying to seduce me like he's the most amazing thing in the world.

As someone who grew up as evangelical Christian all the way through his childhood, I can say that being an atheist and accepting my irreligion is a breath of fresh air, a lot like the kid in the video when he escapes. It's a beautiful music video, really, there's depth there.

I can relate!
