Soon after forming they became known as "The Masters of the Black Romantic", uniquely combining mystery, melodies and dark fantasies into an imaginative form of Heavy Metal.
During the 80's they were one of the better known German cult bands.
They released 7 albums before splitting up late in 1994:
1. Walpurgis Night (1984)
2. Tales of Terror (1985)
3. Stronger Than heaven (1986)
4. The Beauty and the Beast (1988)
5. Eye of the Storm (1990)
6. War of the Wizards (1992)
7. Shogun (1994).
The band re-united in 2002 with the line up:
Andy Mück - vocals
Fabian Schwarz - guitars
Martin Winkler - guitars
Dominik Schwarz - bass
Alex Schmidt - keyboards
Marc Oppold - drums
and they have released 2 new albums:
8. Dance With the Witches (2002)
9. Witchcraft (2004).
Witchcraft was the last album to feature this lineup as all members except for Andy Mück have since left the band again. In 2005 Andy Mück gathered some other musicians, among others he recruited Jürgen Wannenwetsch, first bass-player of the band from 1981 to 1983. All new musicians soon left the band again except Jürgen Wannenwetsch. Between 2005 and 2010 there were several other musicians playing for Stormwitch but all left the band after a short period of time.
In 2010 the line-up seems to be complete again:
Andy Mück - Vocals
Jürgen Wannenwetsch - Bass
Marc Scheunert - Guitar
Ralf "Stoney" - Guitar
Harry Reischmann - Drums
They soon stated to work an a new album likely to be released in 2011.
Magic Mirror
Stormwitch Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I want to look into my future
No name, it's all the same
I know it's a horrible creature
That day, we seek the way
I hope that I will soon know more
Come now, he'll show you how
I will ask the magic mirror
Oh, tell me my Queen what I see now
Tell what I shall deem - talks in riddles
So say what you mean, he belongs to you
Hold on, my heart is gone
The magic has captured my soul
Free me, I can not see
He will find me in my hole
Her Majesty, she smiled, the magic's gone and left you
Oh, tell me my Queen.
The lyrics of Stormwitch's song Magic Mirror paint a picture of a character filled with desire and curiosity about their future, willing to look into the unknown to seek answers to their destiny. The setting suggests an encounter with a mystic creature or entity, represented by the magic mirror. The singer is aware of the potential horrors that await, yet is still determined to ask the mirror for guidance. As the picture appears in the mirror, the singer asks the Queen for interpretation, but she speaks in riddles, leaving the singer confused and seeking clarification. It seems that the magic mirror has captured the singer's soul, rendering them helpless and vulnerable, with no escape unless rescued.
The song takes a classic motif of seeking knowledge and guidance from supernatural sources and portrays it with vivid imagery and a storyline that captures the listener's attention. The lyrics suggest that seeking answers to one's fate can be a dangerous endeavor, attracting forbidden consequences that can be hard to escape. The lyrics are also filled with symbolism, with the magic mirror representing the unknown and the Queen representing a kind of oracle, adding depth and complexity to the song's meaning.
