1) “Storyteller”, aka: Matthijs Breijer is one of the latest upcoming Dutch DJ/Producer’s. At just 24 years old, this young talent has already been producing electronic music since early 1995. Matthijs plunged into the world of production when he discovered ‘Scream Tracker 3’; one of the earlier DOS-based multi-track digital sequencers. With an ear for music and a creative mind, Matthijs followed his dream to release his own tracks.
With the rapid advancement of music production software, Matthijs built on his younger experiences and focused on perfecting his compositional skills. In 2002, Matthijs’s hard graft paid off. He landed a spot in the finals of a remix contest held by Dutch super label ‘Blue Records’. At the time, Blue Records was one of the most influential club music labels around the globe with the likes of Ferry Corsten, Klubbheads and Atlantic Ocean all gaining early recognition from releasing on the label. Matthijs finished a respectable 5th place in the finals and left his first footprint in the electronic music scene.
In 2005 Matthijs had completed his first EP: ‘Shutdown / Restart’ which was immediately signed and released on ‘Pangea Recordings’. Positive support and feedback from local Dutch DJ’s saw Matthijs rise to the occasion and in 2006 he fired out 13 more releases: The Storyteller EP, Torn Apart, Nabucco, Past Recollection, Rideau Street to name a handful. His productions were grabbed and signed to respected house and trance labels: Enhanced, Deep Blue Records, Curvve, Toes in the Sand & Cloud 9.
2007 and the beginning of 2008 brought even more success. Matthijs’s tracks were featured on several albums: ‘Gareth Emery -The Podcast Annual 2007’ and ‘The Enhanced Collection Series’ by Enhanced Recordings. More fame followed with Matthijs remixing and producing alongside Eelke Kleijn, Gareth Emery, Elevation, Vadim Zhukov, DJ Tarkan, Gabriel Batz, Mohawk, Temple One, Emersia and Supüer. Matthijs’s tracks also received full support from DJ's such as Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Hernan Cattaneo, Gareth Emery and Menno de Jong.
As a DJ, Matthijs has been spinning for just over a few years. However, within a few months of beginning his DJ career he had already clinched a weekly spot on ‘Globalbeats FM’ web radio station. With his turntable talents audible to the public ear, ‘Pure FM’ was the next in line to offer Matthijs a regular slot on their online radio station. To further this, Belgian FM station ‘Topradio’ aired one of his 1-hour promo mixes on their ‘Rotationz’ show alongside DJ legend Sander Kleinenberg.
The Dutch clubbing scene quickly picked up on Matthijs’s undoubted talents and a list of bookings commenced. One of the biggest gigs saw Matthijs spinning with Menno de Jong and Sied Van Riel at ‘Intuition Invites’ held at ‘Asta’ in ‘The Hague’. At such a tender age, it seems that Matthijs has already achieved so much… but with a whole host of productions due for release in the near future and DJ bookings rolling in, this Dutch talent is set to make a real impression in the world of electronic music.

Changeling
Storyteller Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Envy against man
They watch the children playing
Their mind is full of rage
Because they look so beutiful
Their own just looks so mean
It's out of control
So in the dark they steal the children
Replace it with their own
Because they look so beutiful
Their own just looks so mean
Like a silent wind that sweeps the land
They came and took them away
And they took them far, to their new home
And the lives that they once had were forever gone
And the lives that they once had were forever gone
A life that dwells in shadows
Is now where they belong
And what once were human
Shall not be seen no more
And still they look so beutiful
But their hearts are cold
Like a silent wind that sweeps the land
They came and took them away
And they took them far, to their new home
And the lives that they once had were forever gone
And the lives that they once had were forever gone
The lyrics of "Changeling" by Storyteller is a dark tale about how envy and jealousy can drive people to do unspeakable things. The song describes how the changelings envy human children for their beauty and how they are willing to take them away from their families, replacing them with their own "less attractive" offspring. The envy of the changelings knows no bounds and they are willing to go to great lengths to satisfy their desires. The song speaks of the chasm on perception as what the changelings find beautiful is not what humanity finds beautiful, and the envy is a one-sided affair with the changelings finding something they cannot have.
The lyrics indicate that the changelings steal these children in the darkness of the night and take them far away, to their own world, where they forever remain. The human children's lives are gone, and they are forever lost to their families, dwelling in the shadows of their new homes. The changelings may seem beautiful, but their hearts are cold, and they are not truly human. The song's melancholy tone speaks of the sadness and loss that the families of the kidnapped children feel, knowing they may never see their loved ones again.
