Like many of their stablemates, the band hailed from the southern city of Dunedin. They formed from the ashes of The Double Happys, a band comprised of Shayne Carter, Wayne Elsey and John Collie. The tragic accidental death of Elsey saw the two remaining Double Happys join forces with David Wood in 1986 to form Straitjacket Fits. Andrew Brough (from The Orange) signed on the following year, adding a foil in the form of pop sensibility to Carter's more raucous songwriting. From their inception, the sound of the band was marked by the seemingly incongruous but highly effective pairing of Carter's rough abrasive voice and strident guitar and Andrew Brough's saccharine-sweet vocals and pop hooks.

She Speeds
Straitjacket Fits Lyrics

Name any number and I'm counting beyond
Playing it coolly, though you know it isn't even really there
Caress one night away, I was looking for more
More, more, more
But she
She speeds
She rides the wind, she burn, burns
Yeah she rides the wind, she burn, burns
And her speeding, her freedom's what's appealing to me
to stop her in her tracks
Match an act with flat tactics of attack
These eyes may be steady but my cigarette is shaking
With way deep saying, why don't you leap in
But she, she goes, so no
Leave it, but you know at times it seems
oh I need her more than my mind
Yeah, I need her more than my mind
Oh I need her more than my mind
The lyrics of Straitjacket Fits's song She Speeds depict a sense of longing for someone who is free-spirited and elusive. The singer laments over the absence of "her" and the yearning for her presence, confessing that he counts the moments when she's gone, and tries to play it cool when she's around, even though he knows it's not real. He desires more than just a single night's embrace, but she is not interested. The chorus is a testimony of her freedom and how she burns through life like wildfire, riding the wind and living without boundaries.
The verses of the song suggest the singer's attempts to stop her from leaving and match her ways, but it's all in vain. He wants to follow her free-spiritedness but is trapped by his steady eyes and shaking cigarette that signify his inability to escape his reality. The song's lyrics come to an end with the singer's confession of how much he needs her, even more than his sanity.
She Speeds is a rock song that was written by Shayne Carter and recorded by New Zealand band, Straitjacket Fits. The song was released in 1987, and it's one of the band's most popular tracks.

I could never drive past those rail yards in Christchurch without hearing that opening riff. The numbers were painted over sometime in the 00's. Vandalism.
@deepfryblue
totally agree Stephen pure nz heritage gone with a slapdash of green paint( i think they're green now) i took a photo of them back around 2014 while waiting for Ross Galt's opposite to rebuild a van doorlock, thinking to myself they would eventually be painted over- back then EasySteel were trading from the warehouse but i don't think they were the prats who vandalised an icon.
@deepfryblue
Yeah and the back of the ute/truck scenes were shot in the Lyttelton Tunnel; which direction were they travelling tho?
@stephenmetherell5690
@deepfryblueΒ Something says Lyttleton to Chch to me. I have no idea why, though.
