Moon
Street Joy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I took a rocket to the moon once, on a night a long time ago
The night I shuttled to the moon was quite a fright and very cold
Look out the window see the Earth disappear
The shuttle lands and it was clear – I'm on a rock, oh god.
I suited up and took my first step on the white dirt we see from home.
Seven steps I look behind me to see my shuttle, it had flown.
I try to run in its direction, make my footprints fly.
I didn't make the connection. My shuttles home, I'm gonna cry
And the tears in my helmet made it hard to see.
My head started spinning and my knees were weak
But then my ears didn't fool me,
From not to far, there was a beat,
And then some singing, yeah.
"You are not alone"
Said the rumble, under my feet.
"I've been so alone, if you walk to me, we can meet."
It was a voice that I'd never heard, but a presence to which I was familiar.
I glide in the direction that the sound drew me. It was a long way, a journey.
The white rocks that were below me started to fight with my feet.
The moon surface below me started to crack apart into a smile.
It was then that I realized,
I was standing on a face that I'd seen many times.
And then my eyes weren't playing games,
From right below me, there was a smile,
And then some singing, yeah.
"You are not alone"
Said the rumble, under my feet.
"I've been so alone, if you walk to me, we can meet."
"You are not alone"
Said the rumble, under my feet.
"I've been so alone, it was a matter of time
(matter of time)
For you to save me
(save me)
It was a matter of time
(it was a matter of time)
For you to save me, dooo doo doo dooooo
Do do do
I had become the savior of the man on the moon.
I'd stay to solve his loneliness and not go home soon.

And all we had was this old tune,
In not too long, we'd kill the gloom.

Overall Meaning

The song "Moon" by Street Joy portrays the experience of an unnamed narrator who takes a rocket to the moon and faces a sudden realization of loneliness while standing on the moon's surface. He tries to run after his shuttle and finds that he is alone until he hears a voice singing "You are not alone" and the sound of a beat. The singer follows the sound and finds out that it is emanating from the Moon surface itself. The surface then starts cracking and forms a smile, and he realizes that he was standing on the face he had seen so many times before. The voice in his ears and the beat he was hearing suddenly starts making sense, and he understands that it was the man on the moon, who was singing to him. The singer becomes the savior of the man on the moon and decides to stay on the moon to solve the man's loneliness.

The song uses space as a metaphor for human loneliness and depicts the singer's loneliness despite being surrounded by celestial bodies. The lyrics are simple but depict the depth of loneliness and how it can be remedied by simply being there for someone.
