I.G.W.T
Stryper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's been said money talks, if so what does it say
Four simple words we see every day
The rich, the poor, heaven is for those who choose
Don't put your trust in money you'll lose
Again and again

In God we trust, in Him we must believe
He is the only way
In God we trust, His Son we must receive
Accept Him today, tomorrow's too late

(Repeat Chorus)

Ooh, ooh, ooh, in God we trust
(Repeat)

Overall Meaning

The song "I.G.W.T." by Stryper is a powerful message against the worship of money and material possessions. The first verse reflects on the power of wealth, but rather than glorifying it, the lyrics caution against putting too much faith in it. The phrase "in God we trust" is not only a nod to the American national motto, but also serves as a reminder that true fulfillment cannot be found in physical objects or fleeting pleasures. The chorus reinforces this idea, emphasizing the importance of believing in God and accepting His Son before it's too late.

The song's message is further underscored by the band's signature heavy metal sound, which is both intense and uplifting. The repetition of the phrase "in God we trust" throughout the song highlights its central importance and creates a sense of unity among listeners who share a belief in a higher power. This unifying effect is further emphasized by the catchy melody and the expressive vocal performance.

I honestly remember my dad laughing long and hard, one day after christmas when i got this CD as a present. I listened to it through and through multiple times and told him "You have to listen to that track IGWT!" my dad says "In God We Trust?" im sitting there ignorant of literally anything Stryper has ever done "No, dad, its a new song from them" my dad laughed hard for a while. then he made me listen to the original, both versions are great, my old man and I are in disagreement as to which is better

blind_channel_fp

I think the original 1988 version is better but this is cool too

Eugenio Garrido

Nice rearrangement so it can fit into Michael´s actual vocal range and sound grittier at the same time. Very cool.

The Human Crayon

Nothing beats the harmonies on the original, but the heavy intro and vocal outro on this version are undeniably awesome. If someone were to make a mash-up of the two versions, minds will surely be blown.

Said Otero

Now they play live a mashup between the two versions, which is pretty cool

Beautiful,
Thanks Jesus and thank you for Michael.

I like the original version better, with their harmonies, but as always this is still a great song
