Live Again
Stryper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take me and I lay down my life
And break me, cut the cancer with a knife
Teach me, what is wrong from what is right
And show me, when to walk and when to fight

I am weak, I'm never strong
I've been upside down for way too long
I'm sick and tired of no real change
Can You help me rearrange
My life ‘cause I really want to live again
I want to live again

So shake me, I'm a man who's settled
I'm a man who's settled in, settled in
Can You clean me, I'm so dirty from within

I am weak, I'm never strong
I've been upside down for way too long
I'm sick and tired of no real change
Can You help me rearrange
My life cause I really want to live again

Ooh yes I am weak, I'm never strong
I've been upside down for way too long
I am weak, I'm never strong
I've been upside down for way too long

I'm sick and tired of no real change
I said, can You help me live again

Overall Meaning

In "Live Again," Stryper is essentially singing a prayer to God, asking for guidance in their life. The verses detail some of the struggles and afflictions they are facing, including weakness, being "upside down" for too long, lack of growth or change, and feeling settled in their current state. However, they are turning to God for help in overcoming these obstacles. They ask to be broken and cut of their "cancer," taught what is right and wrong, and shown when to fight and when to walk. They acknowledge their own weakness and implore God to clean them of their internal dirtiness. Ultimately, they express a strong desire to live again and ask for God's assistance in rearranging their life to facilitate that.

The song's chorus is simple but powerful, repeating the line "I am weak, I'm never strong / I've been upside down for way too long / I'm sick and tired of no real change / Can You help me rearrange / My life 'cause I really want to live again." This repetition hammers home the message of the song and the singer's plea for help.

I am extremely proud of Stryper... In the 80s they looked too cheesy, with too much yellow and black uniforms, big hair, make up and they sounded too much of preachers(syillwith amazing musuc, by the way) ... Since they reformed, I feel they talk more like regular men, speaking of Faith and God.. The musuc s grown up, it s nature, big, deep, even darker and epic... As the soundtrack to the Heavens should be... I hope I ll see them live one day, Stryper is for real
