Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Money Money
From the lemonade stand to number one in command
The dream of fools is to try to play God whenever he can
It's the folly of man
The writing's on the wall
Adam's invisible hand
This is not sleight of hand nor supply or demand
Nothing's ever enough and it was endlessly your turn
Now judgment is at hand
So you say
save me from myself
Arraign the infidels
Enslaved to endless wealth
that devils made
Oh are we more than slaves
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Is this all that I am
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
After the wolves among men feast on the sheep in the pen
The silence will bleed when market bells toll again
And all that I ask is that you not pretend
to misapprehend your intent
Clock in, clock out like a mechanical lout
While politicians betray and filthy lawyers holdout
Every bucket of bullion knows a name on a grave
And every rainbow needs a slave
I'm begging
save me from myself
And slay the infidels
Save me from this hell
that devils made
Because we're more than slaves
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Is this all that I am
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Slave to the money
Is this all that I am
Is this all that I am
The lyrics of Studio-X's song "Slave" convey a powerful message about the detrimental effects of being consumed by money and materialistic desires. The repetition of the phrase "Slave to the money" emphasizes the idea that individuals willingly surrender their freedom and integrity in pursuit of wealth.
The song begins by highlighting the journey from humble beginnings ("lemonade stand") to achieving a position of power and authority ("number one in command"). However, the lyrics also suggest that the desire to play God and control others is a foolish and destructive characteristic of humanity. The concept of "Adam's invisible hand" refers to the belief that individuals' pursuit of their own self-interest leads to a better society, but here it is presented as a mere illusion.
The chorus is a plea for salvation and freedom from the grip of money. It criticizes those who have become enslaved to endless wealth, suggesting that this pursuit has been driven by the influence of malevolent forces ("that devils made"). The lyrics question whether humanity is capable of transcending their servitude and reclaiming their true essence beyond materialistic desires.
In the second verse, the imagery of "wolves among men feast on the sheep in the pen" symbolizes how the powerful exploit the weak for personal gain. The silence bleeding when market bells toll again suggests the hidden consequences and suffering caused by a society driven solely by profit.
