Can't Buy Me Love
Studio 99 Lyrics

Can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love

I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend
If it makes you feel all right
I'll get you anything my friend
If it makes you feel all right
Cause I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love

I'll give you all I've got to give
If you say you love me too
I may not have a lot to give
But what I've got I'll give to you
I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love
Everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love
No, no, no, no

Say you don't need no diamond ring
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want those kind of things
That money just can't buy
I don't care too much for money
For money can't buy me love

Can't buy me love
Everybody tells me so
Can't buy me love
No, no, no, no

Say you don't need no diamond ring
And I'll be satisfied
Tell me that you want those kind of things
That money just can't buy
I don't care too much for money
Cause money can't buy me love

Oh, can't buy me love, love
Can't buy me love, no

Overall Meaning

The song "Can't Buy Me Love" by Studio 99 speaks about the fact that no amount of money can buy love. The song is essentially about true love and how it cannot be purchased or bought with wealth. The opening lines of "Can't buy me love, love, Can't buy me love" set the tone for the song's main idea.

The singer then goes on to say that they will buy a diamond ring for their friend and get them anything that will make them feel alright, but that they do not care too much for money. If their friend says they love the singer too, they will give everything to them, even if they do not have a lot of material things to offer. The underlying message is that love, care, and affection cannot be bought or sold. The refrain, "Can't buy me love, no, no, no, no," further emphasizes this point.

The last two parts of the song are about the type of relationship the singer wants. They want to be with someone who doesn't care about material things, and who understands that money can't buy the type of love that they need. They want to be satisfied with things that money can't buy, like the love and affection of their partner. The song concludes with the refrain, "Money can't buy me love, Oh, can't buy me love, love. Can't buy me love, no."

Overall, "Can't Buy Me Love" is a simple and relatable song that speaks about the true nature of love and how it cannot be purchased or bought with wealth. It highlights the importance of relationships and how they should be built on love, care, and affection, rather than material possessions.

I am a semi professional music producer, and Phil Collins totally pioneered two things, in my personal opinion:

1) Voice filters and echo

2) Beat compression

I know he wasn't the first to do these things, but he WAS one of the first to actually put it on the map. Look how far those two aspects have come over the years.... I believe he is a HUGE reason behind it!

This song specifically, listen to it on a killer sound system. It sounds and feels like a literal vacuum, with all of its compression!
