Yellow Submarine
Studio 99 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the town where I was born,
Lived a man who sailed to sea,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of submarines,

So we sailed on to the sun,
Till we found the sea green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine,

We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

And our friends are all aboard,
Many more of them live next door,
And the band begins to play.

We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

(Full speed ahead, Mr. Barkley, full speed ahead!
Full speed over here, sir!
All together! All together!
Aye, aye, sir, fire!
Captain! Captain!)

As we live a life of ease(life of ease)
Every one of us(every one of us) has all we need,(has all we need)
Sky of blue,(sky of blue) and sea green,(sea of green)
In our yellow(In our yellow) submarine.(submarine) ( Haha! )

We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,

We all live in a yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Yellow Submarine by The Beatles is a narrative about a man who lived in the same town as the singer. The man traveled the sea and shared stories of his voyages in a world of submarines. The singer and his friends set sail to the ocean and eventually found a sea that was green. They decided to make their home in the yellow submarine as they explore the waters. Later on in the song, the singer talks about how the friends on board all have everything they need and live without worry or care. The song ends with a repeated chorus that reminds us that everyone on board lives in a yellow submarine.

Shame that "Hey Bulldog" got lost within the Yellow Submarine Album.. Such a great song and holds up so well over the years.

I love that song! It's absolutely outstanding, another of their masterpieces.
The bass lines are really superb, brilliant!
And the piano riff of course, the excellent guitar solo, the lyrics...... Everything on this track tells you that we're in front of one of the best Beatles creations.... and you know....that is really a lot to say!!!

Marvellous movie. Everything they did in the 60s was amazing. The had a decade of momentum. It's great to have them for real at the end.

Guy Incognito

Watching this, when you consider that they based their illustrations on the album covers and the voices on what they thought they sounded like, you have to say they did a really good job with what they had
