Under My Thumb
Studio 99 Lyrics

Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around
It′s down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ain′t it the truth babe?
Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways
It′s down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she′s told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it′s alright
Under my thumb
A Siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world
It′s down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She′s under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah
It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She′s under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright
Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else
It′s down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she′s spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it′s alright.
Say it's all
Say it′s all
Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe

Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe

Overall Meaning

The Studio 99 song "Under My Thumb" is a cover of the original song with the same title by the Rolling Stones. The lyrics describe a woman who was once dominant and controlling over the singer, but now she is submissive and obedient, all because of him. He enjoys having power and control over her, being the one to dictate what she wears, what she does, and how she speaks. The lyrics suggest he views her as a pet or an object to be held under his thumb. The song is filled with sexism and male dominance, with the singer claiming ownership over the woman and exerting his power over her.

Many people have criticized the lyrics of "Under My Thumb" for their sexist and offensive nature. The Rolling Stones have been accused of promoting misogyny and objectification of women through this song. However, others argue that it is merely a reflection of the times in which it was written, and it is a common theme in many rock songs from that era.

I...WAS...THERE! Awesome show! I screamed so much I think my voice permanently dropped an octave. Fifteen years old and couldn't have been more excited to see THE GODS on stage in front of me.

I was only 11 or 12 years old in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada and the only record I had was the Rolling Stones Greatest Hits called High Tide and green grass! You go girl!

And to think they were considered old then--still going 40 years later. Greatest rock band ever.

You want a clue to their longevity? When other bands were drinking Jack Daniels before a show, they were drinking Gatorade. Always playing the long game.

This is a fantastic gig. May have been longest Stones show ever. If I recall, this was a 27 song set list, and it was the last Stones tour where the band had the guts to play a ton of new songs from their new album plus rarities like "Let Me Go."

Of all the many concert intros which I have seen in my life (live, DVD, YouTube or whatever), this is the one that fascinates me mostly. Hats off and thumb up!
